What time is the party? If it is after 7pm then I'd wear the long dress.

If its before 7pm then go the short dress with a nice funky coat/jacket.

Hey T, how long is it? To the floor or mid calf kinda? Cos a bit below the knee would be alright, if the dress is super long would you consider taking it up?

mmm, cocktails, yummo!

excellent invite you scored there Theresa, but i know what you mean, with a group you don't know most of the people, except that they're well heeled, that does sound daunting. However, you're walking in there with your lovely self and your lovely other half, so you're in front before you even get in the door.

Whatever you wear, try it all on and walk around, sit in it, etc at home. Be comfortable in it, view yourself in a full length mirror. If you are fiddling with it all night you won't be comfy. Have a "dress rehearsal" so if any minor adjustments are needed, you won't be scrambling for safety pins "on the night". The boob tube underneath sounds a good idea, so after six cocktails, nothing can slip out without you knowing!!!! My entire wardrobe right now seems to be saggy baggy pregnancy clothes, but going from the junkmail in our letterbox, 80's clothes, tunics, and MATERNITY LOOKING clothes seem to be all the rage. Empire lines etc - all the stuff i thought was maternity clothes !!!! But it does look very different on skinny models with legs up to their armpits ha ha!

Hope you have a wonderful night, have some yummy cocktails and flirt like crazy with your man!

OK well, last night i tried on my short dress with a boob tube underneath and it looks OK - you can't really see it in the pic I've attached, but the hemline is short at the front (just below knees) but longer at the back - say calf length. I thought with my long boots that have a gorgeous heel and some stockings my legs will be warm.....

Only dilemma now is a coat/jacket - I've been through our two main op shops today and nada, and I even went to the "flash trendy kids" shop to see what modern coats they might have - but its all summer stuff!

Fi - it IS one of those necklines! You can't quite make it out, but the band that goes around is actually at waist level so its pretty revealing and when I've worn it in summer I've used lots of that tape! But I'm with you on the animal print - so we can be prudes together!

E - The surprise starts at 7, so we have to be there before then - although my friend is ALWAYS late so if we didn't start till 8 we'd probably still beat her there!

Gigi - I'll have a drink for you my sweets!
