I have just changed to a different swim school, which has a lot less choice for class times. I've been given a class time, but I'm not sure whether to change it or not... after some opinions, I've put up a poll.
Choices are:1. Monday night 6pm - right when we normally have dinner, so we'd have to completely change our routine for that night. But DD might then have a really good sleep - we'd get home abou the time she'd be getting ready for bed. 2. Wednesday 3pm - roughly when she wakes from her sleep. I'd have to be pretty vigilant to get her to bed by 12.30pm in case she slept for 2 hours which she sometimes does. We'd then be getting her up and going straight to swimming. 3. Saturday morning 9.30am - great time, but would be mainly with 6 month olds just starting, whereas she's been going for 18 months now (just at a different place).

I went for the afternoon but I think it also depends on how she wakes up from her sleep - some kids take awhile to 'come round'
I'd avoid the 6pm. We've done a 5.45pm befor and it's alright at the beginning of term but by April is just getting too cool and dark in the evenings. Particularly coming out into the evening air with wet hair etc. 9:30am is definitely the best time and I'd go with this if there was to be at least one other 18mth+ yr old in the class. If they are all 6mths it would be a real baby class and I don't think she would be getting to do the 'big' games and activities she would enjoy! |

i am going to go against the grain and say the afternoon 3 reasons
1. havng swimming lesson later in the day is a good way to convince them to have a nap. 2. will wear them out for the evening ( nice early night )3. she may get a little bored with the babies in the class as they structure them differently you can always do lunch and nap a little earlier on that day say 11.30 - 12. |

Yeah, I thought I'd mention it would be 6 month olds because they mentioned it to me when I called them about available class times and I'd be worried she wouldn't be learning enough skills appropriate for her own age.
She wakes a bit groggy (never happy to be waking up!), but I think knowing that she had swimming to go to would help her wake up As I said, I'd have to make sure I got her to bed about 12.30pm that day so we weren't late for class. She normally goes to bed for her nap about 12.30-1pm anyway, but I'd just have to make sure I wasn't running late in the morning or it would screw up the whole day.

I would be inclined to go either mornings (which I voted for) or afternoon. Personally, for me it is easier to get out the door in the morning rather than the afternoon. However, I can see your concern with going in a class with children a lot younger. Have you asked the teacher whether she would be learning enough for her age group?

definitely go for a class with more kids in her age group. the younger "baby" classes will probably be a bit boring for her, as they do different things/are at different levels generally. I'd go for the after the afternoon nap one personally, if it was for me, although I'd prefer the sat morning one for time/convenience. We aren't putting Marcus in a swimming class yet as they only have older babies available right when he usually naps.

I chose wednesday after nap time, too many kids may be a distraction, but could also help her be more confident seeing others swimming
you could always change classes as she becomes more confident.

I chose 3pm because she'll have time to wake up in the car on the way and then it's a great way to spend the afternoon (particularly if it's hot!) Just remember to get dinner ready before you go so it's ready to eat when you get back because you'll be famished (unless you eat while there...).
Pretty tricky to choose the 'best' time.
