Default How much store do ~you~ put in dreams?

How much store do ~you~ put in dreams?

And for those of you for whom they serve as (for want of a better word) premonition/prediction how do you know the difference between a plain ole dream and one that means something.

Interested to hear anyone's experiences...

More often than not, my dreams are as a result of stuff that has happened in the day: for instance, I had a dream about my son nearly drowning the other night and that was as a result of all the icky stuff that has been on the news about kids. I can usually link my dreams to events or thoughts that have happened recently.

Very occasionally I will dream of something and then something similar will happen during that day or soon after but I just see that as coincidence as it seems pretty random and not always the case.

I try to listen to dreams...I've found it's often my subconcious trying to tell me something important. I also on occasion have had 'different' dreams, where something (invariably unpleasant) happens to either me or people I'm close to. Usually I have the dream about a month before the actual event, but I' m never able to prevent it happening in real life. Haven't had one of these for quite some time, thankfully. I often have a few of these clustered together, not too long after a time of stress.....not sure why, that's just how it happens. So there you have it - I think that sometimes dreams are just your mind blowing off steam, sometimes it's your subconcious trying to tell you how you really feel about something and sometimes....well, sometimes it's different

eta - The difference between plain old dreams and the different ones - normal dreams are usually pretty forgettable, even the scary ones fade after a while, but the different ones - they have a kind of feel to them, everything seems heavily symbolic (to me anyway) and they often have an ominous vibe (because mine are almost always bad *eyeroll*). Also, they aren't easily forgotten - I still remember with great clarity, every detail of my special dreams. Unfortunately.

I have a friend who has premonition type of dreams... I just have plain weird ones. Sometimes they are linked to things that have/are happening, sometimes not.

After seeing the surgeon last week about my jaw surgery later in the year (hopefully), I had a dream a few nights later about getting a tooth taken out and they showed me after it came out that it was glowing blue... It freaked me out the whole next day, but it was weird that it did cause it was actually a pretty peaceful dream.

I try not to take too much notice of my dreams. They're usually too strange to worry about. The occasional one like the tooth one freaks me out for a day and I can actually still remember some from when I was a kid, but in general I just forget about them.

I have lucid dreams occasionally as well...

And I do stuff in my sleep - turning on the lamp, resetting the alarm clock, getting out of bed etc etc. Nothing too drastic and I never make it out of my room, but it can be annoying when it comes to alarms etc!

I woke up a few nights ago and I'd gotten out of bed and was trying to get undressed. I'd dreamed that I had spilled something on myself and woke up to find myself out of bed, half brushing stuff off myself and half trying to take off boxer shorts that I didn't actually have on in the first place.

I have had strange dreams/nightmares since I was a kid and remember mum getting me out of bed many times, giving me a drink and keeping me awake for 10 mins so that the dream didn't start again when I went back to bed. I just found out recently that she has bad dreams as well and has to get up for awhile otherwise they start again (I think this is part of what happens with lucid dreaming).

Like others my dreams are usually related to daily happenings or stressful situations..

I find that atm my dreams are so vivid...I wake up feeling like I have the biggest hangover and like I haven't slept at all.

I don't think I have had any premonitions in dreams.....that I noticed/remembered anyway.

I guess I don't take too much notice of my dreams - if I ever remember them!

Being a Christian though, the bible talks about times where God's spoken to people in dreams, so I'm not completely dismissive - if I have a dream that sticks with me, that feels significant, then I'll think on it some more.
If I'm shaken after a dream, I'll try figure out why, sometimes I'll realise I'm actually angry with someone and need to forgive them, or have a fear I need to let go of because it's stopping me from doing things.
Other times I might have a feeling I need to 'do' something, write an encouraging note to someone, call someone to check on them, pray for someone - and I might find out months down the track that they were going through a tough time at that moment and my actions helped.

So, I don't put much store in dreams, unless I can't forget them - and then I'll start to consider that they might be significant.

ohhh I forgot before... I do start to think they might be significant after the same thing keeps coming up again and again! A year or so ago I started having dreams about an old friend I hadn't seen in years. Completely out of the blue I had about a dozen dreams over a few months, so I got in touch with him. The dreams mostly went away after that, but they come back every now and then. Not really sure what they are about, but they were very persistent for awhile there.

The only one I've had that I can remember that something actually became of... was a dream I had before this woman moved to the town I used to live in.

The bit of the dream that stuck out, was a fox stalking one of my kids while we were camping, and my oldest brother shooting it. Saving my child.

Not long after this 'woman' (and I used the term very loosely), who ended up being a real freak show once we got to know her. She bought the local General Store, and knew my kids weren't to have lollies all the time, especially BL my oldest. they also weren't to have coke.

Well once I ended the brief friendship, she would give my kids lollies and coke for free when they woukld go and get milk/bread from the shop if we needed. Telling them "Don't tell Mum & Dad, it's our secret".

She KNEW one of my safety rules with the kids was not to take food/drinks from people unless I say it's okay, even if I know them. The kids said at first they would say no, but she would pretty much force them into it in the end. This was only one of many many things this 'woman' did where my kids were concerned.

Needless to say me and said 'woman' had a run in when I was 7 months pregnant... if I wasn't pregnant I would have killed her.

Oh I forgot... I have this gift of knowing when friends are preg, and their babies are being born via dreams. I wake up and just 'know'. The same thing happens when someone I know passes over. I dream about them, and the next morning I wake up with a dread. It never clicks though until I get 'the' phonecall.

I think if I could work out what my dreams mean then I would understand more about myself. If that makes sense lol. I do have nightmares when I am stressed and worried about something. I have to touch dh for awhile before the feeling of the dream leaves me. They seem very real. When I am pregnant I get really weird ones. When pg with Gabby I dreamed that I was lost in a very strange hospital that had a mote inside the building (like a castle) Also I had repeating dreams of chasing a long lost love through my local streets. Other dreams don't make much sense but I do dream alot. Also my dreams are never in colour. I am not sure whether they are black and white or whether colour just doesn't exist.

I have premonition dreams and often years in advance so I believe in them. I also have weird combinations of my thoughts and feelings too. But all are vivid. They are usually still images with conversations.
