my understanding is that no matter what you kill it with, to really do yourself a favour you have to reduce the conditions are conducive to it growing in the first place. Even if you douse your enture bathroom with vinegar or whatever, if it's warm and moist and not much ventilation, eventually (so my understanding is would love to bewrong lol) it will grow back...
anyway, I am armed with a new squieegie mob thing and 4 litres of vinegar (didn't quite get to five ) and after we're all fed, that's where I'm off to.

We had some mould on the ceiling, we were thinking of trying a commercial product but we tried vinegar first. With slight scrubbing the mould came away (and a layer of paint) and we've had no reapperance in over a year. However, we also removed some things which were resticting the air flow to the room.
Chemically I would be suprised if bleach doesn't kill mould. It oxidises the mould which alters it chemically and would break down the cell structure. If there are other things in the area (including the paint, plaster, dirt etc.) the bleach would also attact them and if there isn't enough bleach to deal with all of that then some of the mould won't be killed. The spores will also be in the room and would quickly reinfest an area unless the moisture source is removed. Mould is a fungus which has hyphae, these thread like roots can spread over huge distances and would be able to enter the plaster. Bleach would kill the visable mould, but many of the hyphae will remain and they would be able to quickly recolonise the area.

Thanks AJ-
I like explanations behind things - and I did wonder why bleach wouldn't be as effective as I thought but the hyphae thingos explains it quite well, thanks!

Yeah thanks AJ- great explanation (albeit in a skin crawling kinda way!) I cannot tell you how much mould I found on toys, etc in my house after 6 weeks away (when it rained and rained).
