depends - home, no not really, friend's places nah
for school E, so yeh, kinda. They have the urn thingo etc in the class, and sink and all the rest but I guess it's easier for the kids to byo their own bottles iykwim It's also easier while travelling for the kids to have their own (relatively non-spill) drink of water handy iykwim, and while we're at the shop etc and I wanted to know, if I bought any other drink bottles (we've been through two SIGG ones already - one got popped in the freezer as I hadn't explained to Brooke about fill and expansion, and the other one got a hole in it from being dropped and bashed up repeatedly) then I'd know where to look iykwim having already decided on which ones.

Ah, okay then.
I guess something to think about is what is your usage like Vs dangers of the products? The way I see it, its very easy to get caught up in the hype of all types of different products - we're surrounded by advertising of dangers of various products, pros and cons of everything. So I think if you wanted to make your purchase carefully, consider not just the dangers but also your usage of those products over time then decide what the level of danger is for your family. Like I said, we don't really use plastic bottles at all (the kids at school use the school's glasses and tap) but we *do* use a plastic sealable jug for picnics. Since we don't go on a lot of picnics, I accept that the plastic jug may leach small quantities of chemicals into the water over a long period of time.... however, our overall exposure to the danger is very very low to almost non-existent and therefore I accept the risks associated with using a plastic sealable jug. Okay, not sure if I'm adding anything at all to this discussion. Sorry. |

yep E
in the playgroup and kindergarten they have kid-size glasses, and glass jug and tap but not in the primary grades. and I get what you mean about hype and how often you use things, weighing it up, just you know how it is, when you do buy something, wanting to make the best purchase you can iykwim. Our jug is plastic (TW) for picnics as are our cups, salad bowl, plates, servers etc etc I do like stainless tho - we use that a lot for camping... (doesn't matter if it touches something hot etc unlike plastic) anyway... will ponder some more lol, thanks!

Our kids all have one of these each. I feel a bit unsure about both plastic and aluminium. They take these ones to school and they don't chip off paint like Ben's old Sigg one did as they are not painted. I bought each of our kids a sheet of waterproof stickers in a different colour each, and the bottles are all unique now and look cute.

Nikken Wellness sell polycarbonate bottles, which they claim wont take anything away from their treated water. Apparently the most benign plastic type product around.
