yep another one that's been bugging me and something I mentioned elsewhere and Joh commented on too.
We have SIGG water bottles for the kids. BUT DH isn't so sure about them - he worries about the buildup that comes on the inside (I know it can be scrubbed off) and just generally about the composition of the inner of the bottles. BUT I'm not really THAT happy about plastic drink bottles either... would love to hear pros and cons of both please... or if there are better products again than either of those. Thanks!

I really don't know, but it depends why you don't want to use plastic... of course info you find will vary depending on the slant of the website...

I worry about the actual aluminium as well. It wasn't that long ago that we were discarding aluminium saucepans... I've been wondering if a thermos flask thingy (glass inside) is a better way to go.

Sigg bottles have epoxy phenol resin coating on the inside, and have apparently been tested and do leech aluminium into the water, more when they are heated/warm water inside.

well thanks Obsi.
![]() I like the look of the Thermos one then, am I reading it right that it doesn't have glass inner (hence not suitable for hot stuff?) I like them. Will try and find out where they are to buy and how much. BC I don't really, tbh, like the Sigg or the plastic options, I was just hoping one was better than the other iykwim

I don't think anything is going to be perfectly safe.... very little around us is perfectly "safe"....you could go a stainless steel thermos one, and might have something in the stainless steel leech out.... the question is - in any container - is what's leeching out actually dangerous enough to worry about? (I don't know).
I think I read that the ones not stainless steel inside were polycarbonate (which is why I found that link.... but that's also one of the reported to be dangerous things - Plastic Safety - Bisphenol A - Phthalates (BPA)) which is also apparently in cans our food is in... And I've read that the main study everyone is using on the dangers of PET, was apparently not a proper study, so might not be as worrying as it seems.

Seems like glass might the only inherently safe non-leaching option - if only it wasn't so easily breakable, and so darn heavy!

So what is the problem with aluminium? That old thing about alzheimer links was shown later to be an error in the experiments, so what other issues are there?
