Razor gang slices out compassion as carer bonus slashed | NEWS.com.au
this move is going to hurt so many families. utterly disgusting after all their comments and media about howards party having no compassion, how hard day to day living is for the average australian they then penalise those with severe disabilities. I'm on your side Amy- my mother has to care for 2 people (me and my bro) and was equally disgusted, p!$$ed off, etc, like I was. I even saw a story on Today Tonight about it. Poo-poo Kevin Rudd. And I didn't even vote for him.

love the fact they announced this the same week that PNG is getting what 25mill, and the bid for the soccer has gone up to 32million!
Taxpayers would have to fork out an extra $31 billion each year to pay for formal care without family carers, Ms Hughes said. and yet we lose our 600?! love their priorities!!!

But she said the Rudd Government understood the difficulties faced by carers and was extending the Utilities Allowance to Carer Payment recipients for the first time with an increase to $500 a year, every year
only 3% of families who get carers allowance get this so hmm 97% lose their bonus and gain nothing. wonderful. anyone else feel like laughing at the underlined portion??

WOW Amy I have only just read about this now (thanks for that link) and I feel your frustration... its just not fair at all... we'll miss out on only $600/year but I can tell you now that's never been spent frivilously so it will impact here too
 E - we should turn you into our "policy analyser" to help us work out what all these things mean!

You think with the amount of money that they would save by having people cared for in their own homes that it would be no problem to help out carers

It was my understanding last night of the news, and I hope it's the case, that the utilities thing had gone through and the letter had gone out about that, but the proposed carers bonus was still in the 'budget process' so it's not through through iykwim. That was what whatsername said anyway when asked about it.
That said, that it's even ON the agenda of things to consider cutting is pretty disgusting.
