Default Re: when did you go the permanent option?

See I don't know about this 100% thing. dh and I aren't 100% sure we're done but we're about 95-99% sure. We are happy with our 2 kids and scared of the consequences of 3.

dd2 is almost 2 and we know that a gap of more than 3 1/2 yrs is not what we want at all so we're putting time restraints on the situation. dh is going to have a chat with our GP next week. If down the line we are desperate for another kid then we'd have to be desperate enough to try to reverse the snip. I've done some research and while it wont be nice to reverse it, it is doable in most cases and is almost a test to whether we really do want another.

i have heard tho that after a while of the plumming being disruped that the swimers are either not quality or they stop being made- so to me there is not the option of reversal.

I was more wondering when others did it as its going to happen its just a matter of when.

for when to do it, dh and I always said we'd wait till atleast a year after the bubs birth to decide as we didn't want to be rash. The infant stage is so hard (in our household) that we wanted to make the decision absent of tiredness. ie. once the kids became kids to see the dynamic of family better.

btw, does it hurt at all, is there much 'recovery'?

Males always continue to make sperm it's just that they're reabsorbed back into the body when there's nowhere for them to go - same happens if a man who hasn't had a vasectomy doesn't release sperm for a long time.

Carolyn you may find you need to sign his paperwork after the initial consultation. I went with DH and had to sign the same thing he did, maybe it's cos we're younger than the average couple who get the op done I'm not sure?

Meg, Dh had it done on a Thursday afternoon, was tender when the anasthetic wore off, took 2 nurofen and then took it easy the following day and didn't require anymore pain relief. I was suprised as I thought he'd be worse than anyone with man flu but he coped really well.
Expect bruising - lots of bruising!

TMI, it couldn't have been too painful as it was 'working' again 3 days later

Can i just make a comment- without stepping on anyones toes. (Its just a general comment from discussing it with my friends not what was said here)

Often women go and get the permanent option so that their DH can go and have more kids if they find themselves a young hot flusey () that wants to have their kids.

Yet when we ask about men having the snip the couple have to be 100% sure. Not just the man.

My GF is pushing her DH into the snip b/c she is finished, he isnt so sure tho. i think in that case she should go get done, but it doesnt mean that he should have to.

Dh and i share the parenting- i stay at home most the time but he is a fantastic parent and husband so i think that is why i respect his choice so much. Mind you he also was funny about no4 but i made it clear that i was not finished, so no 5 is definatly off the cards.

The only reason i am 100% sure is coz DH does not want any more kids. If it were me i want to keep my options open to have more kids in the next 15years, only it wont be with DH as he doesnt want anymore and i respect that.

Well I didn't have to sign any paperwork at all. Shane just took himself down and I just waited outside until it was over. Katherine was nearly 6mths when we had it done.

Imo it's a permanent thing, so don't get it done if you aren't sure.

Shane said I had the children, and that he should have the 'snip', but I know lots of men who won't have it done, just because they think it won't work any longer. It's much easier in most cases for the man to have it done. It's under local, and although tender for a day or so, and lots of bruising, over fairly quickly. I just shrug my shoulders and go 'sooky men' again lol!!!
