Wow, my son has been going through this for the last few months. After a myiad of tests and weeks away from daycare (because the GP thought it was contagious), another doctor suggested that it was related to his eczema. Now I have a name for it - thanks! We've done wheat free before (when he was a baby) and gradually reintroduced it and didn't notice big changes, but I guess we'll have to try it again.
You can get rice noodles cheaply in the international section of the supermarket, so you might want to try those.

Not food related, but...
I had perioral dermatitis when I was pregnant. I cleared it up using an antibacterial face wash called pHisohex. It's not "natural" iykwim, but it certainly worked. The appearance didn't worry me much, but it was itchy and sore so I was pleased to get rid of it (or maybe just a 90% improvement?). I use this stuff when my daughter's eczema gets infected and whenever she has a big flare up (like now ). I started using it when she was about 15 months. I never used it on her face though - I don't know whether it would be suitable, but I thought I'd mention it. You can buy it from pharmacies. it's in with all the sensitive skin and acne-prone skin stuff.
