I watched that show last night.
I'm honestly of mixed minds about it. IMU The laws against incest are primarily in place to prevent abuse happening within the family unit. But both couples they featured on the show, were NOT raised as a family together. There simply isn't ANY question of abuse, nor of a family member taking advantage of anyone. Both couples met as ADULTS who had not had any expectations other than the genetic one - and genetics is a hard thing to think about as a basis for NOT being attracted to someone. As for their daughter - the whole thing about close relatives having genetic defects is a bit of a myth. Well, a bit. It is true that family members can carry the same genetic defects - and hence the kids can have a larger likelihood of having a recessive genetic disorder. But the opposite is also true. They can carry some excellent traits which can combine into a higher level of intelligence too. The British Royal Family is inbred, second cousin to second cousin, all the way down through the ages. It's always been that way, to supposedly preserve the 'royal' blood. The social aspect of the child having her grandfather as her father, and allt he other social connotations - well that's harsh. I think they would have been better off living in secret - because after all, if they don't see themselves as father and daughter, then why do they need to tell anyone? It's a harsh and judgemental world we live in and if you are going to make it in a positive sense, you really need to be aware of that no matter how bad it sounds...

I was in shock seeing this story last night. I agree is not abuse, however it is totally wrong and to put their daughter on TV is even worse. Why would you go public with a story like that? They are just going to be seen as sick now, rather than people understanding it.
Ahhh Yucky, makes me feel a bit sick in the stomach.....

Sorry but IMO that is just creepy any way I look at it, (only my opinion) but the fact that they knew just creeps me out.

I saw a show about this phenomenon on TV the other day and apparently it's not unusual for parents and children or siblings who weren't raised together to be attracted to each other Genetic sexual attraction - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Still pretty icky to think about and I can't understand why they went public, etc but the show was pretty enlightening and its more common that people think. Generally I think most people don't cross the line but the attraction is not uncommon apparently. |
