DS#2 gave DS#1 a book about brothers when he was born. "Brother's are for making mudpies" the sister version is "Sisters are for making sandcastles. I give this gift to older siblings when a new baby comes along. It's a lift the flap book and I used it as a book that gets read during breastfeeding only.
From older siblings to the new baby we gave a baby record book. DS#1 and DS#2 loved giving that to their new baby because we pulled out their record books and compared sizes. Other little things we got were things we had to get for the baby anyway and got them to help choose.
I can't remember what the other things we got were though

Thanks nappyhappy, I really like that idea about the books - as DD LOOOOVES books, so this would be a keepsake as well as something practical. I have been looking around for "big sister" books, but not having a lot of luck finding anything. I even went into a bookstore the other day to ask if they had anything about being a sister and the lady basically told me to look on the shelves myself or if I had a title they could search for then she would do that!!! WT?? Why is she even working there if she doesn't know what they stock??? Anyway..... I'll keep looking, but in the meantime, if anyone has any title recommendations for Big Sister books, please let me know!!

Wow, thanks heaps, Wems! I actually ordered that I'm a Big Sister by Joanna Cole from the book depository that someone else put a thread up about (sorry, can't remember who that was now and it was only last night!!). It cost me about AUD$7.50 with free postage!!! Yay! I'll check out the rest, thanks again

Thought I'd share - DD & I finished making baby's present today - one of those taggy blanket things. It's roughly 30cm square (maybe a teensy bit smaller) - one side has alternating microfleece and bamboo velour squares and the other side has a "baby print" flanelette. We used all kinds of things for the loops/tags, including some jiffy fabric sewn into triangles for a bumpy tag effect! I also used some polar fleece for two tags - cut into long squiggly bits, but after I sewed it all up and pulled on each tag to make sure they were staying put the polar fleece just stretched and started falling apart!! So I cut these off, leaving the slightest smallest little red fluffy bit sticking out! Looks a bit funny, but better than bubby ingesting some fleece!! Anyway, I've put a coupe of pics up to show our finished product!

lovely lori

my fave big sister book isn't actually about a big sister - it's about a chicken
it's called queenie - and there's a big sister, baby brother, mum, dad, dog and chicken (actually it's our house but i don't have pink hair and we are getting a chook at the new house).

another gorgeous book that they can share is called peepo by the ahlbergs - i love this book and read it to ally constantly as a baby - of course it's in a box atm so we'll have to dig it out when me move again. there are big sisters in it. but i love that the ahlbergs got to do it together before janet died.
hugs
karen
