Where do I get a trap anyway? I think DH bought one from a bargain store once but he couldn't work out how to use it and surprise surprise it didn't work and we never caught the darn thing

5 in one night Wow!!!! That would make me so happy Hopefully there's only one here though....

The supermarket will have traps Ying. I think if you've got one, you've definitely got more...

When I first moved into this house there were a lot of them. One night there were about 5 of them running in and out of my room. I was so freaked out that I was considering sleeping in the car. I ended up catching a couple in traps and my landlord put some baits around which I wasn't happy about (my dog was a pup at the time). It turned out that they were mostly coming from the dump of a house next door, so when that was cleaned up and all the mice and cockroaches were taken care of, the problem got much better. Now I've got two cats. I still see rats running along the fence outside at night though and hear them in the roof, so they're not too scared of the cats.

Not necessarily, Kirrily, we have had one at a tme before (pretty sure ... only ever saw one, only ever caught one and the problem went away, YK?)

Ying, the first autumn rains often drive them indoors. Try not to freak out tooo much about disinfecting everything, or you'll make yourself crazy. We discovered ours was living in the bottom half of ourTupperware/plastics cupboard and I just washed everything in the dishwasher and wiped the cupboard out with Spray n Wipe.

Put some traps out (supermarket will hve them, so will Bunnings), IF you can put poison baits somewhere that you're SURE Becky can't get them (we had one under the fridge and one under the dishwasher, where ours liked to live) that's another option but you need to be SURE she can't get them.

Garry once killed a small one with flyspray! (Kids weren't up at the time.) It was under the fridge so it was kind of trapped. But the last one we had took FOREVER to catch, sometimes you just have to be patient. Sweep up droppings regularly and try to work out its habits/fave hiding spots to try & catch it.

Thanks Georgie for the tips I'm pretty sure there are more than one but shouldn't be more than 2...we've seen a bigger one before and the one last night was a tiny version.

Ours live under the fridge but the past 2 days we've seen him hiding in the cabinet which is next to Becky's toy boxes. I want to use whatever that will catch or kill him on the spot, that way we won't find him dead somewhere else a lot later on iykwim.

I try to sweep up every day. It's so hard to keep up with cleanliness when you have kid dropping food eveywhere

I know what you mean ... ours died somewhere and we still don't know where! (Somewhere in the walls, I think, because while we got some blowflies for a couple of days, we didn't get *thaT* many, and there was no smell) But we got to the point where we just wanted it dead however the means.

Oh yeah, I know ... my house is definitely not a model of cleanliness! I did try extra hard when we had the mouse, for one thing it gave it fewer places to hide ... but I'm sure it always had something to nibble on. *sigh*
