Default Q about tonsilitis and temp for 7 days with antibiotics

Last wednesday Mila started a course of antibiotics for tonsilitis. Its now been a week and if I dont give her panadol on time her temp soars and she is miserable.

I would have thought the temps would be down by now?

We did see the dr again a couple of days ago as I was worried the infection was spreading into her chest. Dr said her chest was clear and that the antibiotics takes 10 days. She also said that her tonsils weren't pussy anymore but her throat looked quite sore.

Her breath is horrible too

She now also has an enflamed gum around one of her molars as she wont let me brush her teeth...I think because its so sore in her mouth.

Has anyone had experience with tonsilitis lasting so long? I am worried we are missing something

She isnt eating well...well she never does but even worse atm. The panadol does bring the temp down and she is fairly perky when its down.

I have a sore throat too....just what I need with a Caesar next week

Anyway, any words of wisdom? Thanks

no advice Sarah, sorry Poor little Mila.

If Panadol doesn't do the trick, maybe you can try Nurofen? It should help with the inflamed throat and relieve the pain for her?

I understand about the eating thing, it's the same here too whenever Becky's sick I just keep up her fluid intake and give her whatever else she wants.

Thanks Ying

I have been giving her nurofen on occasion also as sometimes she needs another dose of something and its too early for the panadol.

Its just very frustrating to see her like this

Whenever my boys have tonsillitis the temp and pain seems to subside within 48hours. I would be concerned too that you still have temps. I would be thinking the antibotics are not working. Has the doctor suggested changing the antibotics? Or the other thing I am thinking that it is viral tonsillits rather than bacterial??? But you did mention puss so it is unlikely.

I do remember having tonsillitis late last year and it took me quite a lot longer to get over it. It might have been a week and it was so painful.

Hopefully it clears up soon for you and you don't get it yourself. Goodluck with the birth!!

It could be a viral tonsilitits meaning the ABs won't do any good for it.

Once we had Jess get tonsilitis and it went on and on, and yes she stopped letting me brush her teeth, and she stopped being able to eat and drink and it turns out she had the coldsore virus in her throat and mouth.

Thanks Karen and Shannon

Yes I am now thinking it must be viral
She had the puss when we first took her and then the other day the dr said it was clear so maybe she had a combo of bacterial which the AB have fixed but also has the viral.

She seemed to be getting better at one point and then went down hill again so maybe thats it????

She has never had a temp last this long!....at least it goes down with some panadol/nurofen

Colloidal silver is what I used for me & Alastair when we had viral tonsillitis (actually, it was self-diagnosed since the damn doctor prescribed him abx without taking a throat swab, but I was 99% sure it was viral so we skipped the abx), and it worked a treat. It's safe for pregnancy and safe for toddlers

(Of course, I'm sure you already know this, but finish the abx anyway! Should be fine to take the CS in conjunction with the last of the abx.)

Hope she feels better soon, poor mite!
