There are a few of us Science geeks here then
![]() After high school I graduated uni with a degree in Biological Science (Plant/Animal) and started my Honours year. I dropped out due to a complete lack of funding (there were 5 of us in one tiny room with one computer, one microscope etc) and a teacher I didn't get along with. I did some volunteer work at animal parks but other than that I never used my degree and we settled down and had our family. Before that I worked mostly in retail (bakery/hotel etc) and did some private child minding both before and after Abbey was born ![]() I started my WAHM business back in 2004 and that's the path I see myself on for a while yet

When I left school I started a science course, but then I got a legal secretarial traineeship at a law firm so I stopped the science course.
Since the traineeship finished I have worked as a conveyancing secretary. I went back to work for a day (and then two) a few months after Eden's birth. My mum would bring him in so I could feed him at lunchtime (there was expressed milk at home). When Eden was about 1 I started studying at uni so that I will be eligible to get my conveyancing license. I went on maternity leave because of high blood pressure 3 months before Caelan was due, but kept studying. Since resigned from that job. Now I am waiting for my results to see if I've passed and finished... I've just realised that I'll have been in the industry 9 years this year (if you include time off from work, but still studying)!

I have a B Creative Arts with a graphic design major. I have worked as a web designer for a private company for 6 months, then in a federal govt department (from hell) for almost a year. All through that time I also worked from home for my friend's company as web/print designer/slave. Eventually I did that 'full time' from home for about 4 more years, before I started sewing on the side and realised that I could make a job out of that, so I quit the design stuff and started what I'm currently doing.
Oh I worked as a freelance designer as well while working for my friend's company... And did a 4 month stint at the dept of transport, converting documents from one format to another and proofreading them. Last edited by kirrily; 02-07-2008 at 12:00 PM. |

out of school I worked in a bank for 4 years, got really bored with that, then did a B.Bus in Computing. Moved to Canberra to become a programmer (and love it). Did 3 years public service, 3 years with a private consulting company (to the public service), and the last 10 years as an independent contractor (to the public service!)...hey, its a public service town. I'll finish up work in September before bub #1 comes along. Ideally I want to be a SAHM, but our 'aspirational lifestyle' (ie HUGE mortgage) means that I'll probably need to go back to work within 6-12 months. Especially as my DP hates work far more than I do and he'd kinda like to be a SAHD for a bit. Luckily we both have the same earning capacity, so we may be able to swing it for a few years. Oh why didn't I find myself that multi-millionaire who could keep me in the style I'd like to become accustomed to!

I'm a SAHM/WAHM mama at the moment...taking a break from the WAHM thing (Loopy Lilly).....
I actually have a degree in Interior Architecture.....but just have no drive to do that at the moment. What I will probably do is use my background to do a bit of Interior Design/Decoration later on, just residential and small scale stuff....I doubt I will fully use my skills again, but at least the Interior Design bit is fun, easy and not so cut throat. ETA: Oh almost forgot I have yet to complete another Arts Degree...was going to major in Eng. Lit but decided to change to a design degree instead...wouldn't mind finishing that one day...it was fun. Dunno what I'd do with it though :/

I have a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting major, Finance minor) and I worked for the SA public service for 13 years before having Louis, returned briefly to work and then left to have Marcus at the end of 2005. STill employed but on extended maternity leave until 2010 (woohoo!). I worked in various admin/finance jobs to start with, until I started my degree, then I moved into the finance stream and I had been working as an accountant for about 5-6 years prior to leaving with Marcus. That's all I've ever done.
Currently I'm a SAHM, but I also am a nappy rep atm for a reputable MCN company that is keeping me busy/happy for the moment. Not sure what I want to do when I go back to work. Actually thinking of a career change, but don't know what really.
