They roam all day amoungst the goats and sheep. Very cute really. Its not the cleanest place but I have never been to a battery farm so I can only assume that he keeps his sheds pretty nice in comparison.

Will have to look into organic meat. Haven't honestly put much thought into it. We only have 3 meals or so a week with meat anyway but think it would be worth looking into.

So . .. does anybody know if we can get a copy of it somewhere so Carolyn and I can watch it???

So much animal cruelty goes unseen unless you actually look into where your meat comes from and how the animals are treated you have no idea!

How on earth can people think it is OK for something to suffer so horrifically so you can have cheap eggs?

The idea of this show isn't to make someone necessarily convert to vege iykwim.

The idea is to open peoples eyes to the reality of what they are eating and how a lot of cruelty goes into it.

The aim is to make people more knowledgeable about the industry & also get the 'free range' as a seller opposed to 'battery'.

Most people think free range or organic means hippie but it means a fresher, simpler, more humane way of treating our animals and planet.

I am not a vege of any sort but don't eat much in the way of meat and neither do my family but we are certainly very particular about what products we buy and what that means for the animals involved and our planet !

Go Jamie you are a legend. So damn good to finally have someone getting in peoples faces about this

He did it very well. Finally my DH is more supportive of getting more free range and organic products for a change, I've only been battling for 10 years with him over this issue.

I watched bits and pieces of the show and mainly saw the end.

The message I liked wasn't to stop eating meat but to know and respect where your food comes from and to support the produce that is raised friendlier and killed quickly especially when it is only a few $ difference. A lot of people complain about the price of veggies and good quality meat but then add a chocolate bar (a lot more expensive per kilo) to the shopping.

what do they do with the roosters if they arnt lunch?
They are killed, and are sold to zoos/petshops for food for things like reptiles, or I don't know - used in petfood perhaps...

what is a wet egg?
Gross....I'd never heard of it before, but he had a carton of it... basically any wonky looking, small or unsaleable eggs get all cracked into one big vat and mixed together to make a liquid that is egg white and yolk together. I was wondering if people buy that in America/UK, but hubby thinks its just something bakers would use. So you'd use like 1/4 cup that instead of an egg I guess..... There is nothing wrong with the idea, it's just egg.... it's just not a form of egg I'd be comfortable using.... Just like I'd not use powdered egg either...(You can also get powered egg, which I have heard of.....only from my dad talking about how they sold it that way in the war, and a US friend mentioned it so I guess you can buy it in the US.)

and they showed a "long egg" I think he called it.... even freakier than the wet egg..... that seemed to be reconstituted egg (I assume that's how they do it) that is pressed into a 20cm long "loaf" type thing......like an elongated boiled egg... so that caterers/chefs can slice it to make perfect looking egg slices (for salads etc).

And usually slave-chocolate too.

And yes, I agree with you. All of us really do need to think through our purchases a bit more and realise the full range of costs to humanity, animals and our environment.

if anyone wants humanely treated beef, you could try honestbeef Home . it's not really that expensive per kilo, but you have to buy a certain amount (that's what freezers are for )
Thanks for the link Bron, I've been trying to find a bulk supplier for some time. Is there anywhere on the site that will give me an idea of what freight will be, or do I need to contact them for that?

Toria just email them and ask they are great to deal with.....Our freight is only $1/kg but we only leave about an hour away
