I wish we got that show down here! It sounds so interesting!
I know how my animals are slaughtered (I don't eat chicken anyway) so I'm quite happy to continue being an omnivore.

It intrigues me (trying to think of another word but intrigue will do for now
) that many of the audience members were in tears when the male chicks were being killed (and to put it blunty the majority of the time they are 'minced' rather than gassed as it is cheaper ) but they will probably eat an egg the next day. How can humans, including myself, do this?! We have a tremendous capacity for delusion.Bec.

We watched this at my mums. MRM = FOUL!!!!
The whole thing made me feel sick. I already knew about the majority of it but watching it like that made me very thankfull that I have made the choice to cut out meats. It almost bought me to tears watching those chicks be gassed, and the poor zombie chickens in the chicken 'farm' It was an awesome show and I hope he keeps at it. I hope it opens more eyes up to the cruelty that goes on. All to make a buck!!! blerk

I thought it was great and will be thought provoking for a lot of people.
I'm quite comfortable with the concept of eating animals (Leather and other products come as a result of the meat industry), but I do believe that their suffering should be limited....which is why I chose to keep my own chickens for eggs and buy free range chicken when I can. I must admit though, I also hadn't given any thought to eggs used in goods (bought cakes, mayo etc.).... but at least I make the conscious effort where I can. I thought it was well presented in that he wasn't saying not to eat meat, but rather to think about it, and pay the bit extra to support more humane farming.... and pointing out that it makes a difference in taste too (which is one huge thing we notice with our eggs, even over store bought free range eggs) I love that he now has a large flock of chookies roaming around his yard too ![]()

I didn't watch it, couldn't bring myself to do it. I've seen first hand the terrible conditions of a poultry farm, years ago when the ex and I went to get some chickens for our property. I walked in the door of the shed once and refused to ever go back in there(we got chooks from there a couple of times, until I decided I'd prefer to buy free range ones).
It doesn't matter how my meat get's to the supermarket, I can't do vegetarian as I don't like vegies lol. But when money permits I do like to buy meat that has been farmed more humanely(thanks for those words Obsi ).I have my own chooks in the backyard for our eggs now, will never buy eggs from the supermarket again hopefully.

I make a point of eating free-range eggs and even if we go to breakfast I go to places i know use free-range too.....however it totally slipped my mind about other things I am consuming like mayonnaise etc!
DD is a big chicken eater and I really am going to make the effort to buy free range organic. Jamie Oliver ![]() ![]() I wonder if he is doing shows on other industries. I would even like to see a show on fruit and veg and why buying organic is the way to go.

I didn't watch it, Carolyn and I were out.
I have chickens myself and didn't realise that they cull all the roosters until I went to buy one myself. It was so hard to find one past a few weeks only cause breeders just dont keep them unless they are 'show quality'. So sad really I didn't realise that this happens in the larger scale operations though. I just assumed they sent the roosters off to become Sunday lunch IYKWIM when they were older. |

I watched most of it but I just couldnt stay awake any longer so had to go to bed. (Lucky I did as I have been up since 3am
![]() ).It was an eye opener, I found the gassing sad but I have worked (volunteered for a summer) in an American animal shelter where dogs and cats were gassed every day which I found extremely distressing due to their distress .I do buy free range eggs and I am trying to make my own cakes/biscuits and don't buy too many other products that contain eggs. Next step for us is finding organic/free range meat - we eat meat in this house and although I am trying to reduce the amount DH has to have it everyday .

I love his style I have a bit of a crush on Jamie
![]() I was a vegetarian until about a year ago but there's no way I would buy cage eggs or cheap chickens. It's exploitation no matter which eggs or chicken you eat, but atleast we could make sure they had some sort of decent life first. The only thing that pissed me off about the show is that he got people to choose pale chicks out and put them in a box.. they were unknowningly sending those chicks to death. I would have been fuming if he did that to me and demanded my chick back. |
