Childcare worker trainers (TAFE lecturers) that I have spoken to were shocked when I told them that there were centres that refused cloth.

Yeah that's what i was getting at Michelle..........Unless it is dangerous for the child they are "supposed" to respect and carry out parents requests and encourage continuity of care So they should have policies and procedures in place that allows them to do that

People wouldn't just say "oh well" if it was centres refusing to bottle feed or allow a mother to express BM etc....so it shouldn't be happening for choice of nappies either

So refusing cloth when a cloth family enrolls in the centre goes against alot of the accreditation criteria

H was in cloth at childcare, for him we used various touchtape pockets. They thought they were wonderful

When I enquired about a spot for S. for when I go back to work, the first thing they asked was I sending the cloth nappies again . S will be in fitted and PUL cover as we haven't had any luck with AIO or pockets with her.

    Thanks for the info everyone

At the centre she is in now, Im pretty sure they already use cloth wipes - well they used to anyway. One of my friends used to work there and they used to use facewashers.

I assumed alot of them did this, they supply the wipes so I dont mind what they use really. As long as theyre not JJ wipes she wont have a problem. I will find that out though.

The lady I spoke to at the new centre basically said she cant see why not, I assured her they are just like using disposable nappies and she seemed quite happy with this. I might send her with all the BG's because they are all velcro. All with liners in them and complete with a nappy bag.

    Thanks again!

Brock is at an ABC centre and the Director checked with her manager and as long as I take them home every day (yes we had a good laugh about this) they said it was fine. Brock is the only one in cloth but all the staff have mentioned how cute and easy they are. I usually only pack bubblebubs and the ocassional D'Lish. I put the wet bag until the sink and told them to just roll up the nappy and put it straight into the wet bag, don't worry about rinsing it or anything I'll do that when I get home. They have been great about it.

The ANN has put a Cloth and Childcare fact sheet on our blog Do you want your childcare centre to use cloth nappies? « Australian Nappy Network® Ltd

Also just another note on completing the survey that I mentioned before for compiling a database, another way that that information helps us is when we do approached a centre that is refusing cloth (especially on that is part of a chain) we can draw on that information and present those cloth friendly centres as a supporting example.
