Default I'm about to murder my Thunderbird!

Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhh!

I woke up this morning to a Thunderbird which wants me to set up my email accounts. I could scream! Fortunately I have been able to find all the files. My profile, my mail, everything is on my computer, it's just that Thunderbird has decided not to recognise it. It does, however, know how to recognise my address book.

I followed a tute showing how to set up a Restoration Profile. It didn't help because I don't know how to make Thunderbird go looking for a profile even though it's in the exact right place. Grrrrrr!!!!!!!

The 'import' command will only import other programs' mail such as Outlook.

I have no idea what happened overnight to make it stuff up like this, and I have no idea how to fix it. Mozilla's site is down, so I can't even try installing a new version to see if that would pick up my profile and be happy.

I'm off to have a shower and calm down. At least all my stuff is there even though I can't access it. If all else fails I'll install Outlook Express and see what I can restore of my Firefox in there.

Boy, I really needed to let all that out.

Hmmm that has happened to me but I don't remember how I fixed it other than restarting my computer. Oh and check that Thunderbird isn't running in the background - I think that's why mine was doing it.

So (presuming you're on XP or similar) do CTRL + ALT + DELETE and then click on the processes tab. Look down the list for thunderbird.exe and select it and hit the End process button. Then restart thunderbird.

Don't know if that will help, but I hope it does.

Thunderbird? Mozilla? Firefox?

NO idea with computers here! Sounds mighty frustrating though! Hope it's sorted soon.

Thanks for the idea Kirrily. Unfortunately I seem to have a different issue. Would have been nice to find the answer here.
Pheebsie, problem is that until today I was singing the praises of Mozilla. Much more stable than OE and IE. So sad.
I think I'll just wait until I can download another copy of Thunderbird, then take it from there.

Pheebs, that's blasphemy that is!!!

The only thing I don't like about TB is that the spell check doesn't work!

what bron said! (again)

I love love love my thunderbird . it is leaps and bounds above outlook or outlook express (outlook express should be a swear word, it's the most unstable POS in the world)

Yeah, I know, Thunderbird is great. *sigh*
Except for mine. Today. Think I've figured out a fix, but it'll have to wait until after DS is in bed.
For any technically minded folks, it looks like my prefs.js file has corrupted and no longer has the mail.folder lines in the script. I have to manually rewrite those lines into the script. Wish me luck, it's been (many, many) years since I've done any programming.
