Why Do You Blog?

For those of you who have a blog, I'm wondering - what is your motivation for doing it?

Is it like a diary, mainly a record for your own use? Is it so your family and friends can catch up with what you have been up to? Is it mainly for business use?

I've been thinking about starting a blog but as it would take considerable time to maintain I'm questioning my motivations for doing so. So why do you blog?

I do it mainly for family and friends, a bit of business, and a bit of feeling like I'm part of a worldwide community that makes things from scratch and cares for the earth. It can take as much or as little time as you like- you don't have to update it all the time if you don't want to, you blog when you feel like it, or have something to tell the world

I have my blog pretty much for just my craft stuff. I don't think I've yet put in something not craft related. I have people in my life who are interested in my family and my life and my thoughts and feelings, but I don't have much of an outlet for oooh-ing and ahh-ing over my craft. Unless you count a tolerant "that's nice dear" from hubby as feedback lol.

I don't think very many people even look at my blog. I really do it for myself, I actually like going back and looking at the pictures of the stuff I've made on it.

I have two blogs.

One I have all about DS to keep the relatives in touch with him and to help them feel connected. I have one SIL in Canada, and another SIL who keeps travelling to the Pacific Islands, and all my parents' side is in Europe, so it helps to have a way to show them DS.

My other blog is a record of my Consumption Challenge, so all about my craftiness within the context of not buying new stuff. I like to have a way to record what's happening and what I'm making and I like to post pics of my FOs because I get so inspired by other people's FOs. I don't think many people read it, but I like to do it anyway. It helps me to stay motivated.

so i don't have to print off 4 million photos a month, and make a million phone calls. the nagging from family was getting insane and it was costing us A LOT of money so now i blog my nan checks it at her weekly dinners at my uncles, my mil checks it at home and i'm on average saving 90 a month

I do it to share cos I love showing off my boys

though i still get comments about 'when are you going to send some REAL photos' and complaining that the kids albums down there haven't been updated in months and so on and so forth, so only partically successful

I do it for family and friends to keep tabs on us, save me calling and emailing photos. I also do it as an outlet, I can share the things I get excited about. As a record too, of what we get up to!

I have two. One I started because I was thinking of WAHMing and couldn't find anything on what it was really like, so I've blogged the journey to give other people an idea. That's become my business blog, and I really need to update it more often.
The other I started because I don't have anyone to talk to I live in a very small town and don't get out much, and don't have as much time to spend on forums as I used to. Plus it lets me do my philosophical rambles about whatever I want.
