    Default Car keys

I've got a car finally YAY I still have to do a driving test end of next month though but DH bought me a car and I can legally drive it so long as I have someone with a full license in the car with me And I drove to playgroup with a friend today too!

I love how convenient it is, but also find it's a bit fiddling loading and unloading kids and stuff Maybe it'll take a while for me to get used to it

What I'm worried about is losing the car key...here's what I usually do once I park the car.
Take the key of the ignition.
Grab my bag, throw the key in the bag.
Put the bag down next to the kids.
Unbuckle Becky and make her stand next to me.
Unbuckle James and carry him out.
Grab the bag, close the door.

At this point, I'm worried I'll forget to lock the car as the key is in the bag. My mind is with the kids so I'm not sure I'll always remember to lock the car
It's so hard to find the keys when you hold a child in one hand and rummage through the bag with another. When I use public transports, I just walk to the house with them in the sling and pram and hanging the bag on it, so easy to grab things!

    What do you do?

oh i couldn't get by with out my key fob!! Girly Bits

Tho I can lock the car by pushing down the front door button from the back as I get Kes out of her seat, she is always the last to get out BUT I make sure either my keys are safely around my wrist or in my bag if I have one at the time

oh and we have a rule that a Hand must stay on the car when standing next to me so that the little one isn't tempted to wander.... this has been a rule I have enforced with all my kids once they were old enough to stand next to me

I have a fob in the inner lining of each bag I take with me that I clip the keys to as I unload the kids etc. Or even on the belt tabs of my pants/skirt and I always just push the button when the last door is shut.

I love that it beeps to tell me I have locked it too!

I have a separating clip that I clip my keys to in my bag. It becomes habit, to hold them while you get the kids out etc.

I used to put them on the roof of the car, so I couldn't lock them inside. Never had a problem remembering to lock. (although I did walk off to the shops the other day and left the keys in the door....)

I have a key fob on my car keys so the fob goes in my back pocket with the keys hanging out ......yeah yeah all class

We don't really lock our cars much so can't help with that.....but it does soon come just part of the leaving the car routine

I'm obviously all class too, I have a tiny cloth nappy on my keyring which I stick in my pocket with keys hanging out - ala Wems while I'm getting out C and O. I do the same as Heidi and make C keep a hand on the car all the time while I'm getting Oscar out - or more usually I put him in the Babyhawk, then get C out after that.

Last thing I do is grab my bag and then keys to check car is locked, then I walk about 10-20m, can't remember if I've locked the car or not, and lock it again

Oh and congratulations on your first car

good to know I am not the only one. I am also regularly having to do a lap of the block to go back and check that I pressed the button to put the garage door down

Congrats on the car Ying. My keys go straight into my pocket if I don't have a pocket I hang them on my finger until I have everyone out the car and then lock the car and pop them in my bag. I really should make myself a wrist fob, I got the hardware to do it and made a couple as christmas presents but never made one for myself.
