Way OT ~ Supermarket meltdown over toothpaste
I just had a bit of frustrated and annoyed cry in the supermarket.
I was buying Lily a new toothbrush because she had hidden hers a little too well for me to find when i spotted the first toothpaste, so i thought, hmm, maybe i should get some... so i read the ingredients only to discover the horrid SLS!!!  Annoyed i checked out the adult toothpaste, and yes it was there too! Why did i not know this?? that's when i cried!!  so now i'm sending out my big SOS, please help me find a nice toothpaste that doesn't contain SLS and actually works!!! I also actually am fairly in the dark about the flouride debate, we don't have flouride in our water here and i grew up on tank water so it's never been a big issue TIA

Head to your local health food shop
 There are heaps to try that don't contain SLS.Bec.

mmmm.. ok Golden Glow have a natural toothpaste... and I know one of the bigger eco stores have a kids one too... will go google! lol

heck I didnt even know about this stuff .... interesting tho that it causes mouth ulcers and one of my daughters gets them quite regular ... off to see if she is still awake to tell her to read about it hmmmmm what else dont I know about

It is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.
"sodium lauryl sulphate: a caustic detergent useful for removing grease; although commonly included in personal care items (shampoos and toothpastes etc.) it can irritate skin and should not be swallowed" Strange how they allow it to be used in toothpaste then especially for kids. How many kids swallow their toothpaste accidentally? Grrrrrr!Bec.

Wow, that is scary and something I've never even thought about Tikki so thank you for bringing it up. Abbey is always swallowing the foam from her toothpaste so from now on she can just have the toothbrush til I find an alternative.
Maybe that's why she had this odd rash around her mouth about year ago - about the same time we introduced toothpaste, I could never figure it out at the time......

I buy "Red Seal" Natural from our Health food store for myself and "Snappy Jaws" for the kids (it's also sugarfree and flavoured orange, strawberry or pineapple). Neither contains any SLSs like all the products in our household (including shampoos, hand cleaner etc!) HTH!
