The weird thing is our cloth nappies are better taken care of then my girls normal clothes..my toddlers tops get food stains etc..but the nappies have no traces of stains whatsoever..and I usually pay 20-30 for tops

It's so funny to 'cos $61 on one nappy is only about 2.5wks worth of disposables!! Put it into context like that and you realise that while it sounds like a lot of money at the time is would STILL pay itself of really easily!! I would love one or two of these for the summer so my DS can just wear this and singlet in summer and everyone can see how beautiful they are and I can boast about his "one of a kind nappy" instead of him looking like every other babe out there!! Keep making the designers guys they are just amazing!!!!

i would pay it and i would use it, to me the joy would be in buying something hand made and functional, because those 2 things appeal to me immensely.
.I dont use cloth for the cost saving..I guess thats the difference

i have to admit that if they were AIOs and did not need a cover i would be tempted just for the show-off factor..... actually, no... i would be tempted but i still would not buy it. Maybe in 6 months when i have actually *used* my nappies i will have a different opinion.
And in regards to those that feel that these comments are insulting- i would like to say that i am sorry if it has come across that way. From my own point of view it is not meant to be taken in that fashion at all. I think it is different to commenting on a style issue (like with the stripes example) but even that would be just one person's opinion on what looks good. I think it is more applicable to compare it to people that are prepared to spend money on quality or individualness. I love Lesley's nappies- i imagine she knows that as i have bought quite a few from her and every post where someone asks for a good nappy to try i chime in and recommend HoneyBoys. But i don't dress myself in the highest quality or most stylish clothes- i just choose stuff i like that is reasonably priced. Same with nappies- i buy the nicest i can afford but would not splurge in that area just to get something unique. Nothing wrong with those that do. I love grabbing the 2nds bargains from Ericas. I imagine there are some people who would not buy a 2nd. ??

I find artisans like Lesley and the Four Bag Fulls girls incredibly inspiring. they make me want to create such beautiful things too, I really like the way that the nappy industry is helping to keep alive some once dying arts!!
I think it's great that it's something that you get such good use out of and get to take with you when you're out and about and admire!! Your baby becomes your own little piece of portable installation art!!!

I love all the beautifully hand-made/embroidered nappies and can understand why people pay that much for them as art pieces
I can't afford to pay that however, so luckily I love my own dodgy home-made stuff ![]() but i can't make nappies for... |

My limit is about $70 regardless what type of nappy soaker etc , but I can't bring myself to spend over $35 on a nappy thats needs a cover , I would only spend over that if the nappy was an AIO and had embroidery of somthing special like that , Longies Soakers etc I would happily spend up to $70 on them as they take so long to make and are works of art

There are a few differences between embellishing and embroidering.
To embellish a garment you can add a motif, or some quick stitches, or a machine embroidered design; on knitwear you can add wool embroidery quite quickly if you know the tricks, or take a little more time if you do knitting stitch embroidery. It adds to the time and it adds to the cost. Lesley's nappies are not just embellished, they are exquisitely hand embroidered. Lesley is an expert embroiderer. Those flowers, bees, etc are made up of multiple bullion stitches and other embroidery stitches; not only are they very time consuming there is a particular skill involved in making them look good, especially when they are so small and detailed. When you consider the time spent to make the nappy and the price of a plain nappy, then you add the time to dye the fabric and the many hours spent embroidering it, $61 is a bargain. As for covering it; why would you even want to.Use plenty of boosting and don't cover it up at all. At some stage all babies will make some part of mum, bed or car wet anyway.Makes me think of a machine embroidery design I used on covers for the change table that said "I wee and poo that's all I do". |

I think we tend to completely undervalue handmade goods nowdays in general. While I'm careful with my dollars when I want something for 'good' (eg. not play clothes) I'll usually look first for handmade, artisian sort of stuff & would not bat an eyelid at paying $61 for a beautifully made nappy if it was what I was after.
