WTG Tikki!

Also ppl starting out in cloth..the majority of the time look into it with cost a big factor so like me when I was shopping around wouldnt even dream of purchasing a vbsn which were still instock...lol while I was stalking the 2nds in ericas..tbh I looked at how much they cost and ..I was thinking wth? I even thought bbh were too much. I think I had 20 odd nappies in my stash at the beginning with no hyena- ing involved..I think the only ones that u cant buy readily now are the itti bittis

Gosh just reread my post!! I'm not usually like that, I just get sick of the VBSN being used as an example, when i really don't think it's a good eg to use. i do also worry that comments about certain nappies being hard to get puts too much pressure on Lori and other WAHMs. Lori, And all of them, work hard enough!!

And while the VBSNs are fantastic there has been plenty of comments lately about other excellent night nappies in other threads lately, i'm trying fleece pockets for the first time and am making some hemp pockets as a result of these suggestions. Just today Joh mentioned the Ella House Bumhuggers and tomorrow there's a new night nappy release at Cuddles'n'Cloth and over at Jeni's she's got some grouse looking night naps and booster packs and there's hemp pockets to be found everywhere. These have all been discussed at length in different thread ~ hmm, i'm gonna start a what have you discovered recently thread for people looking!

Sorry, please stop me again.. LOL

Speaking only for myself here, but we were open till orders until 19th May, you could order as many as you liked. Yes there was a wait, but you were guaranteed of receiving your HoneyBoy! So not all nappies are unattainable, some of them just have a waiting period. I am closed at the moment for customs, so I can catch up on customs, before bubba arrives, but we also stock some HoneyBoy! weekly on OZeBaby.

However you will find that the HoneyBoy! from the States are also beautifully made, HoneyBoy! has a high standard of sewing required for their contractors, but there are other fabulous nappies here in Australia as well, yes some are out of stock, but most of the WAHMs are just that, Mums that stay at home to look after small children, whilst trying to earn a bit of money and as we all know it's difficult at times to juggle small children and work.

I suspect that most WAHMs would love to have instock all the time, but it's not always feasible, and as Aline stated, there are heaps of sites that have nappies in stock, perhaps not always the ones you want, but there is a good range out there, you just have to be prepared to look, and perhaps go outside your comfort zone.

I also think that there are a lot more cloth users now, than say 12 months ago, due in part to forums such as this, and displays and expos now becoming mainstream.

1. I could name at least ten sites where good quality nappies can be purchased right now. In fact, I could go and spend easily a couple of hundred dollars on my wish lists at these sites!!
yep! Which is why I am restrainging myself from heading over to Janie's now and pressing 'buy'... lol.
Just for one example: I have just discovered (I know, I'm slow) that if I stuff a sidesnap (my second ever side snap nappy that I LIKE!) Hemp Pocket Swaddlebees with two home made hemp inserts, plus a BBB booster folded in three right at the front (where the 'pee action' is),(w fleece liner) plus our wool soaker, this works great!
And as I try things, I'm finding more and more things that work.

I've also got some nappies from some of the 'newer' WAHPs that are out, and no complaints.
if you want *those* particular nappies that are in exceptional demand atm, then yes it may be hard, BUT as has been said, there are a heap of nappies still out there waiting for a new home...
see... what an excuse to go fluff-buying!

MCN are just 'starting' in the sense of an established industry... it will work itself out I reckon!

I think it also depends on what works for each person/baby. While there are some lovely nappies out there I would love to try - I don't see a point when I know I have existing nappies (and yes some of these are ones I have had and used fairly constantly for over 12 months) that work. Part of the reason we use cloth is the cost savings .

Yes I see people raving about certain nappies - I rave about a few myself , and for ages I could only recommend 1 local WAHP because all the others had stopped sewing for various reasons. That has increased again, with some coming back and me being about to try a few other makers now.

In the last 2 1/2 years the availability and range of cloth in Australia has just boomed. When I first started buying I had to buy from the US as there was very little available, most of the "oldies" like Dee were just starting out. When you compare that to the 70+ (yes over 70) sellers that there are now we have come along way. Hopefully with advocacy such as RNW nd just palin old word of mouth the use of Modern cloth will continue to grow and that with it, the industry. It may even make it more viable for those that want to move from the realm of hobby to full on business.
