I actually made the switch to 100% cloth because my boy got hand, foot and mouth disease (the sores are similar to CP) and his bum was badly affected. Before that I had used cloth half-assed, but when his poor little bum was all scabby and yuck I imagined that I would feel much nicer in cloth than hot, non-breathy sposies.

Hope Rachel is feeling better soon

Cheers,
K

Hi,

I definately would not change over to disposables.

My 2 are just over them and while my ds is definately out of nappies - (6 years old!!) my dd (almost 3) had them quite bad - not sick but spots EVERYWHERE especially in the bottom/nappy area. As a result I have also toilet trained her - not while she had chicken pox but very shortly afterwards as her bottom was so bad. Up to recently we never had any nappy rash problem but shortly before she got chicken pox (1 weeks approx) she came out in a tiny but bad rash and it seemed to increase when she got the chicken pox.

Even when toilet training her the rash hardly went down adn I was just about to send her to the docs _her first time as she was a home birth but I was out of solutions and on a whim - really as a last resort: I:

1. switched the washing powder,
2 went to wool covers (opposed to fleece ones) and
3 put candula oil and candula nappy change cream (both Weleda....do you have that over there?

_ and after 1 night there was a HUGE improvement.

I don't know which worked well but I am definately releaved. She is not in nappies during the day so I expected it to improve straight away which was why I got so worried when it did not. So when my mum mentioned it looked like a reaction to something she was definately right.

Now I can really empathise with mums re nappy rash and how it affects your outlook on what goes on their bottom!! Up to this month I never had any rash problem so never really realised how it affects so many other things e.g. fabrics? changing? frequency of changing? etc

I think today is going to be her worst day she was so itchy and irratable last night she couldn't go to sleep until 1am I was bathing her late in the night with pinetarsol and that seemed to help her and soother her a bit. I have tried the bath with oatmeal in it but it doesn't seem to help her as much. I was using mostly pocket before this so now my fitted and my flat terries are getting a good workout. I do have a calendula nappy cream here I am just not sure if I should put anything on the blisters or wait a while? I will give her as much free nappy time as i can though.
