This is a half vent/half question so I'll ask it here...
Since we have been using cloth (since DD was about a month - so at least 5 months now) my DH has not done very many nappy changes at all. I put it down to the fact that he can't figure out what goes with what and also that I tell him off if he gets it wrong Anyhow, I will sometimes get DD's clothes and nappy out for him and ask him to change her. He is OK with this but does complain that if the nappy is really wet that it "stinks" (I think it's just the hemp smell and although I know what he means, it's not that offensive to me!) Twice in the last week he has gone to change her after she has done a poo and when he takes her nappy off he actually gags and I have to take over before he throws up What's with that?? Is he just being a wuss or trying to get out of nappy changes, or does he truly find it so repulsive that he can't do it? He never had this problem with our boys in disposables, it just seems to be with Niamh in her cloth nappies. This morning's effort was a VBSN that had been on all night and then she dirtied it when she woke so I can kind of understand that (It did have that lovely aroma of a hemp nappy that had been on 12odd hours add to that the poo and .... you get the picture!) Maybe my hemp nappies need a hot wash or two, or maybe he just needs to toughen up ![]() I will add that he is a very good daddy and husband otherwise so I'm not complaining too loudly - it would just be nice to think that he can change a nappy without being physically sick! Does anyone else experience this?? Marnie

Marnie I know that Justin used to hate changing Kalebs nappies if he was wearing flats and covers because it was too much work
, but then again he does it with little complaints about the smell most times. Wonder if it has something to do with the fact that he has never even seen a disposable nappy. Your DH might just be dwelling on what he thinks are the good old days (when he would rip it off and throw it in the bin)

Ok, this may not be it.
But could it possibly be the fact that shes a girl? You said he was fine changing your boys> I know ALOT of men feel strange changing baby girls, so maybe he is reacting un known to him because he just doesn't want to change her? In my opinion a pooey nappy smells ferel no matter what kind of nappy its in ![]() -Tina

He did try that as an excuse when she was newborn Tina, I told him to get over it!! -LOL!
I am pretty sure he was only joking though, I'm sure he'd tell me if that was his problem and this morning I had to take over because he looked seriously close to throwing up! I agree though - poop don't smell pretty no matter what you wrap it in -

Maybe it's because you touch the wet nappy. With sposies you only touch plastic. Would he change an aio? We've come to conclusion of having different nappies. DH prefers tots, I prefer BBH. We have both so both of us do changes.

who's partner hates changing nappies but is more than happy to have a 'who-can-fart-or-burp-the-grossest' competition...
![]() nappy changing comes with the 'Daddy' title. and no, no sympathy here, sorry lol! I mean, yes, try AIO's do whatever, but ykwim. Also, no one *likes* being told they're not doing it right, yk? As best you can, subtly help, without being 'know-alling', or just leave him to work it out. At the same time, when most of us came to modern cloth, there was a LOT to take in, so maybe putting things in 'piles' to make the learning curve easier, just like perhaps some of us did, yk. However, if it's about just the smell/poo, well yes, whatever poo comes in or goes in, it's still not lovely, eh!

I say get him involved... ask what nappy he would like to use and go shopping with him. You may be able to wrangle a custom order and get his fave footy team or car or whatever his 'thing' is. (OR even one that says 'daddys little girl' lol)
Personally, when Dave starts complaining about cloth I tell him fine.. he goes buys a pk of disposibles, comes home whinging about the price, then complains when I refuse to change a disposible nappy (well, he if refuses to change cloth..lol), then complains that it smells bad, then complains that the kitchen bin is full and he has to take the rubbish out, and the list goes on an on! lol Mind you, that could backfire! lol But hey, hes a parent too and if he really wants to use disposables then he has a right to have input into that choice too...
