I got this yesterday through my DD kindy and my other DD goes to this school.
Dear parent/cargiver The Year9 Science students are currently studyin the topic "consumer Science" and are undertaking product testing. One group has to test the absorbnecy or a range of brands of disposables nappies. The course requires that they list features they want to test, then design a fair test of reach feature. We need to procure samples from a range of brands suitabel for an age/weight range. The class would be most appreciative for any clean samples you could donate. Donation will need to have labelled -brand name -age or kg rating We will gladly produce our finding , so that you can be better infromed on the prouducts and their relative 'suitability' on the market. Your faithfully Now I was wondering do i approach them and offer my nappies as an alternative to sposies or do you read this as a specific sposie test. DO they even know the cloth options around? Do you think I should approach the teacher and how should I go about it?

hmmm.. sounds like they are doing a research project for the kids and chose disposable nappies as a subject, without it really being "about" disposables? IYKWIM???
I think it wouldn't hurt to approach them, because if they are just developing/learning skills in research and testing then IMO, it would be good for them to not only compare disposables to disposables, but disposables to cloth. that would be a really rounded research project, if you ask me. I would maybe approach it from that perspective, since you aren't really trying to get people to switch to cloth here, you just think it might be good for them to test cloth also? they might go for it if you approach them about the academic benefits to the kids

I think it would be a great idea. You can only try.

m sure they have 'no idea' about the cloth options around - esp. if they are just 'consumer' testing and not looking to convert. ![]() so depends on how much of a cloth 'advocate' you want to be ![]() options? give them a sposie. don't give them one. tell them you don't use sposies as they contain harmful chemicals. you could ask that they point this out when they publish the results - but as its consumer science they may not care... goodluck deciding - personally i'd give them a spare sposie, but speak to the teacher and raise my concerns, ask where the 'results' will be published (school newsletter?), etc. and see where i wanted to go from there.

Yeah hadn't thought about them using dyes or whatever.
I would like to get them back in one piece.

can't hurt to ask... and when you ask, just take one in - some people have never seen or heard of fitteds remember...

i really think that it is just a science project on disposable nappies. If anything, approach the science teacher about cloth if you wanted to because it might end up altering the study (they are only year 9 afterall). Depends on how big the study is I suppose - if it is worth a lot of their grade then maybe they would be open to adding a cloth variable to the analysis. But they might just have chosen disposables cause they can soak them, dye them, bash them around and then chuck them in the bin!

It sounds like it is just about disposables.. but they did say at the end they would share their findings to make it easier to purchase.../choose... that's the consumerish side of me thinking - CLOTH!
