Default OT - Breadmaker ???

I have recently come into possession of a breadmaker and obviously am anxious to test my baking skills. I have all the ingredients here for a 'traditional white' except for something called 'bread improver'. Umm, what is bread improver? What does it do? Is it absolutely neccessary or is it something that they add in to complicate things, lol?

Not necessary, but I also have seen it in recipes. I assumed it was preservatives or maybe some extra gluten to make the flour stronger?

I love my breadmaker, can't wait to try some more fancy recipes once I get the hang of the basic ones.

Bread improver is an agent to help make the flour more "elastic" in bread making.... rather than making it crumbly. When using a good quality strong flour it is not required!

I have just asked my "baker" partner .... and he said that the bread improver is an "industry term" ..... in ?english? it is baking powder and is used with the yeast to "help" in the rising of the dough.

I just luuuuuvvvvvvvv home-baked bread ..... can I have the crumbs?

Have fun with your "new toy" ....

I love my breadmaker. I have some of the breadimprover but I always forget to use it. I like the buy the bakers flour though and I don't think you need it with that.
