Default Sheree's reflections - Heavy Wetting Toddler

Hi there!
I'll go first! I was just reflecting tonight when watching my heavy wetter toddle around in her hemp fitted nappy with PUL cover, that she really has an obvious nappy bottom at times, depending on how it is sitting on her (and what she is or isn't wearing over it). I insist on hemp over anything less absorbent, due to the big wees she does (often dry for extended periods now she is of toddler age). AS a result, trim nappies are not much use, pockets are used selectively (usually at times when I expect her to be mostly dry!). BUT I am happy to be using cloth and not disposables, which is what my older daughter was using at the same age, because I had not discovered fitted nappies and decent covers that stay on a mobile nappy wearer! (And don't need changing all the time as a single terry square would require in my case!)
cheers,

Hi Sheree!

I thought I'd put your post as a new thread rather than under Jo's announcement. If you're not happy with the title, let me or any of the mods know and we can change the title of your thread for you.

Thanks Eileen,
I had just realized what I did and was about to work out how to fix it. You were quick off the mark.
Have a great evening!

No worries Sheree.

Going back to the topic, yeah, I think the first time we see how thick the nappy is for our heavy wetters, its a bit of a shock.

We converted to cloth 'cause Jade, at night, was wee'ing through TWO disposable nappies together (we put two on her at the same time 'cause her wee'ing was just amazing). At her height of heavy wee'ing (at around 18 months), she was wearing:

Bubba J hemp nappy with 2 lay-in boosters inside the nappy (so 10 layers of hemp on the wet zone)
2 boosters on the outside of the nappy (another 6 layers of hemp)
Wool Cover
If she was wearing a PUL cover, she would have another 2 boosters on the outside.

Her bum was huge! :lol

In the morning, her nappy was absolutely saturated, but the outside of her wool cover would be dry (damp-ish to touch) and quite damp inside.

But yeah, I prefer her bulky nappies to the 2 sposies we were putting on her at night.

Hey Eileen - 16 layers HMMMPPP to that - at the height of our wee efforts, Henry had 21-25 layers of hemp in the wee area!!!!

But not so bad now - he is dry till morning most mornings, but the resultant wee can outdo the 21-25 layers of hemp if I am not quick enough to get him to the potty.

yep yep and yep

That's why I ended up using a two nappy system and then later the two soaker system at night.

And it looks like B will be the same if not worse. He already wears a BBB with at least another 8 layers of hemp and two wool soakers at night at 11 weeks.

Oh goodness me, Ali, I am amazed that you have two heavy wetters! Although, I think my sister is up to her fourth light wetter!!!
K has never been as heavy overnight as Jade and Henry. K's most hemp overnight was the Bubba J with two boosters in and out and a microfibre cleaning cloth or small washer between the inside boosters and liner! And yes, when travelling we use disposables and once I changed her in the night for some forgotten reason to discover the Huggies full up!
Great to hear from other Mum's of heavy wetters. I love that with cloth, I can keep K dry, a great confidence overnight and during the day. I really love that I can go out and not be changing all the time like I would if I was using flannelette or terry flats. I equate a hemp fitted with a disposable even in the day time, but I can change when I know K is wet and not think I am wasting a half used nappy and know she is more comfortable. It is great!

So how many layers of hemp are you using during the day? We use 6 layers of hemp for day wear.
