Default Nappy choices Vietnam

Not sure if I should put this in the travel section...

Anyway, going on our first OS holiday to Vietnam for 2-3 weeks in May and am wondering what nappies to take. Any suggestions will have to be bought as I don't have lots of anything except my own pockets.

So just wondering what you'd recommend to take thats reliable, easy to wash and dry, and can last a bit for a heavy wetter. I want something pretty reliable as Felicity isn't TT but does hold on and then lets it go in a big amount. She doesn't do it in the potty yet so need something that lasts in case I can't change her immediately she does it.

I have toyed with the idea of taking eco disposables as well just in case but then part of me thinks if the damn nappies are takinng up luggage space they might just as well be cloth!!

Anyway, hit me with your thoughts

yup just moving this for you trish.
i think pockets are great for travelling if they usually work for your DD. they fry really fast and are easiest to handwash if you need to as all the layers come apart

hehe they fry really fast huh Joh?

I agree with Joh, take pockets then you can use flats or prefolds to boost and they dry nice and quick

I agree. if pockets work for you then go with that. The pocket dries so fast. maybe just take a heap more inserts in case you arnt able to wash or dry in time .

Also you would need a heap of disposables for that time. And the ones you use may not be available there. If you are worried maybe take some just as backup.

If absorbency and leaking is a concern, you can take some PUL covers and put them over the pockets for extra peace of mind. I do this sometimes when we go out and I"m not sure how often we're going to find a change room.

Have you worked out where you'll wash them?

I'd definately go with pockets...and taking a couple of pul covers is a great idea.
Our last holiday I used some brand of bio disp nappies and they leaked all the time - so much for convenience!!

Thanks everyone . I like pockets but lately due to her volume of wee when she does it I've been using Honey boys and other AIO's as I haven't had any leaks. However these may be tricky to dry in vietnam????.

As for laundry, have no idea thats why I was thinking disposables as a back up.

Any really reliable pockets? Like a "long distance" pocket. Feel free to spam me via PM if you wish.

Oh and what brand pul cover fits well over the pocket? Never thought of that!!!

We went to Vietnam about 2-3 years ago. It was glorious - have a ball for me!
As for laundry, we stayed in a resort, and the prices for washing were just obscene there! We asked around and foudn the local washing places. They take about 4hrs I spose, and for about $2-3US you get a whole load washed and dried (and starched and iron for a couple of $$ more).
If I was taking jenna to vietnam I would definitly take pockets, prefolds, and flats. Rinse in the shower with you in the morning, and every day or two take a load in qa wetbag to the local laundry, and they will wahs them for you. You will needto tell them what stuff you dont want through the driers, and tell them to use less powder, but dont have any concerns about getting washing done.
Once you see how the rubbish is handled in Vietnam, you will realise that you DO NOT want to use sposies. Basically the streets are swept several times a day cause everyone throws their rubbish on the street. It all gets piled up somewhere, and then the recyclers come through and pick what they want. So some people get paper, some people bottles, some people glass etc. Then whatever is left (that hasn't blown away) gets tossed, and the process starts again. I'm sure you dont want to see your sposies on the street.... YUCK!!
It might also be an option to look at buying whatever the locals use while you are there. I'm sure their flannels/terrys are super cheap, and then it wouldn't matter if you leave them behind - plus it saves luggage space. Maybe just take a couple of good quality covers and a few hemp/bamboo boosters?

Oh I want to go back. We were there when I missed my period for Jenna, so halfway through the holiday I started watching what I ate and drank, but the first half was bliss. Beer is SOOOOO cheap!! Have a 333 for me

i would use shorties over pockets then if she may outwet them. make sure you have microfibre on top of the boosters.
another option thats pretty much the same, but probably more leak proof due to not having attached layers like a pocket nappy or aio, is a pad folded prefold or hemp insert layed in a pul or fleece cover??

I'm super jealous, I would LOVE to go to Vietnam. Sounds like you should have no probs with laundry once you figure out what to use...don't take the Honey boys though, to good to risk losing!
