another thing that it could be is that the fit round the legs of the nappy is altered when lying on their side and if there is a far bit of bulk between the legs (as in a night nappy) then it is less flexible and more likely to gape a little when on their side. This happened a bit with my DD for awhile so I boosted the outside of the nappy and reduced the boosting inside and sometimes I double covered if I could be bothered (using wool covers)

Thanks I think I need to get some better covers to. The SB MM fleece one I purchased doesn't fit over the big night nappy's, even tho it is a L. I have a tots bots one but thats not MM.
The first time I tried wool he got a rash so have been resistant to try again. It was scratchy tho so maybe a softer one would be ok???

Poppy CHicken, i'm also predominantly using natural fabric inners for day. I am after the stay dry effect for her night nappies, but in the whizz kidz nightz (natural inner) i lay in a homemade (well cut out by me) microfleece liner, which is obviously not exactly the same dimensions as the nappy inner.
the other thing about the side sleeping that occurred to me, when bilby was little, we used a safety pillow thing, it's like a cylinder shaped pillow, straight piece of cloth, then another cylinder shaped pillow. It's a thing to get your bub sleeping on their bub (to avoid SIDS). I wonder if making one of those (on a larger scale for the older bub) might help??

I'm having trouble with this too. My 3 month DD is a sidey, and leaks straight out the legs of her BumGenius. I have her in Baby Behinds Bamboo - which are fantastic with their wool cover, but my problem is changing her at night - it's such an ordeal and she is so hard to settle if she wakes - which is why I've been trying her in the BG - no cover, so less involved in the change. (I know that it only takes half a minute, but she gets frantic in her sleep, waving her arms an legs everywhere, and it's v.hard to wrangle her and keep her asleep.) I've been trying eco-disposables at night - she still half wakes when she wets, but they too are a 'one step' change and she doesn't leak out of the legs...
Does anyone else have this problem of slightly traumatic night time changes? I do try to do it before she feeds, but it often happens that she wees after the feed...[sigh] ![]() :o) Beth |

I used to have a cranky bub for night changes. I started to change him after the feed and he was much better. It got better as he got older and could resettle better to.
The Side Sleeping nappy leaks drive me crazy. Not sure how to fix it tho...... have been waiting for a solution....

I'm sorry, but I've given up on night nappies
. It's just not working for us. She either leaks out the sides or I have to change her and same as your bub, Amy, it woke her up and she was awful to re-settle - some nights she's awful to resettle even when I don't have to change her. I'm using eco-disposables at night now. I'll go back to the cloth when she's not feeding so much overnight and I don't have to change her.

I had this for a while-it mystified me until I realised it was only my girls and only when they were in a pocket with only trifolds in it, so the absorbency was in the middle and they'd pee straight throught the fleece sides! After that I always made sure the nappy was right up snug against their thighs and boosted all the way to the edge. I've only used turned nappies, i've never been a fan of frills.
I've never had this problem with my boy, so i'm assuming the different point of exit also makes a difference. I've often thought of making a night nappy that's more like a pair of shorts-I doubt i'll ever get around to it but that's what I theorised would fix a few problems we've had. |
