I worked out for us that while it was obviously an absorbency issue, there were two other issues:
(a) containment - in that if any little bit escapes, it tends to be a Pied Piper and drag the rest with it... (b) evapouration - the more the better. So for us we had a Pea Pods nappy (PUL outer, fleece inner, so you can use any nappy that fits this), with two bamboo trifolds and sometimes extra, PLUS wool soaker or longies over the top. Why this worked for us: 1. absorbency - bamboo rocks lol - I've never had a lot of luck with microfibre, even in combo with hemp and bamboo. 2. containment - the PUL and fleece did a good job but on the off chance that the pee exceeded the absorbency, the wool cover was enough to evap that little bit extra off AND prevent it touching pyjamas or sheets AND because we used the wool = evap = less for the nappy to hold. PUL on it's own for night times, either on the nappy or as a sep cover just wasn't enough. 3. easy for others - pre-stuffed nappy + longies or soaker. Simple. 4. for me like fitted+cover give good double elastic poo-containment, the PUL+wool was the extra that we needed and NEVER a wet bed once I sussed that out yippeee! lol (esp good when you co-sleep) 5. and finally I guess not hard to launder in terms of drying time was good, longies/soakers not hard to care for and I had 3-4 longies and the same of soakers so plenty to rotate. They were onsold and are still going strong on their second owner... 6. portability - we did this night combo while on the road for 4 weeks and were very happy - who wants wet sleeping bags etc while you're camping lol 7. doing this also meant that we didn't have the prob of regular PJ's (usually cotton) wedging their way into between the leg and nappy causing wicking - with longies we never had this prob. You could prob have the same result with flongies (fleece longies as opposed to wool) so yep that combo won it for me!

Loving our whizz kidz nights at the moment, with a soaker that Trish knitted for Sarah that is just the perfect fit over it.
Also using a Peenuts fitted with extra boosting, CT Soy/bamboos boosted and a tester nappy that I can't mention either.

Not much here at the moment. We are having major nappy issues with fit. My CK Auriel night nappy, boosted with two (yes TWO bamboo trifolds) and a double wool soaker longies combo is about the only thing that fits properly and gets us through.
Or a XL VBSN all bamboo with a hemp trifold and the double wool soaker set up |
