    Default cloth on holidays....

We are planning a trip to Sydney for Christmas for 2 weeks and I dont think i could face disposibles for that whole time.......

Im from Sydney so I do have family there but we wont be staying with them (not enough room) so i may have access to washing etc

Has anyone done a trip with cloth and how many did you need??? SHould i pack the massive stash?? (it would be a whole suitcase in itself!)

in th eforum section MCN MILESTONES AND HURDLES< people who holiday with MCN tend to post threads about how they did it, what they experienced

    here is one
    3 weeks overseas with cloth!

wish i had more to show you, but it took me a while to find that one.

Sounds to me (from reading threads like that), that if you go somewhere that is a serviced apartment style of accomodation e.g you have access to laundry facs, it's entirely do-able. And i've read other threads where people go camping - some are near enough to be able to drive to a laundromat when they need to do a nappy load, other people find ways to wash in a bucket ( no laundry at all )>

the type of MCN you take with you is another factor - e.g quickdry styles like pockets, ai2s.

i liked the tip about puttin gyour bub in a night nappy for a flight. And having enough MCN with you (in hand luggage) to allow for dealyed flights, lost luggage etc.

Taking a travel clothesline (the twisted elasticated ones) might help you have somewhere to hang them up.

Not having done this myself, i think i would be nervous of a laundromat, but fine if motel/serviced apartment had laundry facs.

ANd on holidays, i wouldn't have my Little Squirt, so flushable liners are suggested for that (useful for all stages but the runny nb poo stage).

Two weeks without MCN would do my head in too! I know my DD would have awful nappy rash from it too.

If you have a car, having a sack style huge wetbag, a lockable bucket (to store the used MCN in) will be useful. I would pack the wash deteregent you wash your MCN with , at home, with you too.

wish i was going on holiday so i could put all this into practice! i have been reading these "travelling with MCN' threads for newalry two years now! (in anticipation).

pheebs we have done it plenty of times without access to washing machines. i also couldn't bear the thought of sposies!

we washed in a bucket in the shower, with soap. then hung it outside on the balcony. where we had no clothes horse, we have hung nappies on hangers (from the closet), on balcony railings, on the clothes line over the bath (that was a fancy hotel!), backs of chairs. starts to sound a bit messy i spose, but you can be inventive when you need to!

we used pockets for the daytime (with quick drying inserts) and our usual night nappies at night.

you can do it!! & have fun in sydney

I used cloth at the beginning of the year for a 3 week trip from Vic - QLD. TBH, I think that sposies have their place. We only stayed in the same place for 3 days at a time so it was pretty hard to wash and dry in that time as we mainly used fitted nappies.

If I was to do it again I would beg/borrow/steal more pockets so I could just use tri folds and pockets. You could also pack 2-3 tri folds per the one pocket. Pockets dry pretty much overnight.

I would also use sposies on the trip there and back. Trying to store 3 days of soiled nappies in our car - in hot weather - was pretty difficult.

It was totally possible to use cloth the entire time, please dont think I am saying you cant

I'd go for plain PUL pockets (vs bulky minky or fleece) and microfibre (vs bamboo) if weight & bulk is an issue.

For recent 2 weeks trips to Malaysia & Brisbane, in my suitcase, I brought a combo of PUL pockets (BG with microfibre stuffing) and Greenkids pockets + bamboo boosters for nights/long car trips.
I also packed a couple of night hemp pockets + microfibre stuffing JIC the weather was too rainy for the bamboo to dry fast enough.

For nights I used either the Greenkids on their own (double stuffed) or the hemp night pockets with a wool cover. Wool covers were washed and lanolised days prior to the trip so they were fresh and didn't require washing.

For the plane trips I packed itti bitti snap in (standard, non-minky) with extra booster sets to reduce bulk & weight in my cabin luggage.

Certainly doable, but having laundry facilities certainly helps

If you are driving, the bulk/weight/number of nappies won't be such an issue

We are going to Sydney in January and Mexico in April and have no intention of using disposables! I have no idea how we will do it but we will just make it work LOL

I just wanted to add (I wrote this in Meagan's thread too) flushable liners are a great thing when on the road. They help with messy poos and not dealing with cleaning without a little squirt too!
