    Default nappying in Fiji

I have two in cloth at home and use sposies overnight. We are off to an island in Fiji for 10 days and there is no way I want to take 10 days worth of sposies for the boys. The resort charges fees for laundry items but it is the detergent and care issue I need to think about too. There is a sink in the bure and I can use a little clothes line there and take my powder. I'm just not sure what to take and what amounts. I don't want a huge amount of luggage either.
I'm thinking of taking mainly pockets as they dry so quick
Max: 3 medium fuzzibunz with MF cloth inserts, some swim nappies/boardies
Sam: 5 small fuzzibunz, a few prefolds and covers
I'd love to take my AIOs but I'm worried about detergent buildup etc
Any hints or advice or alternative options?

We went to Fiji last year and I used AI2 and pocket shells with Eenees inserts
The shells would dry in an hour and aren't bulky to pack and the Eenees are still environmentally safe, and are supposed to be flushable (I didn't like flushing then).

So there's a good compramise between cloth and sposies.

Maybe if you took your own washing detergent, you wouldn't have to worry about the detergent buildup angle?

Are those amounts of nappies you put, the amount of nappies your kids go thru in one day? Are you banking on doing laundry once a day?

I would take double the number of inserts, that you were taking pockets for. Cos the shells will dry superfast, but i would expect the inserts to take longer.

I read a suggestion for airflights, to put your child in a night nappy and carry extra nappies in yuour carry on luggage, to allow for flight delays, time spent at airport waiting for luggage to arrive etc.

Have a great time in Fiji and i hope you post about what you did with the MCN , when you rertunr

when you say "the care issue", is Fiji a country where the laundry is done by hitting each itme on river stones (like in India?) is that what you mean by "care" issues? Or can you find out if the laundry is done in washing machines.

oh and another very quick dry option, is trifolds in a cover. Two layers of bamboo or hemp doesn't take that long to dry. Covers dry fast.

Flushable liners for the poos might help you out too.

Are you relying on being able to dry the MCN where you are staying?
Do you have a travel clothesline? They are very small in your luggage, have a hook at each end.

    Cheers guys
Bilby I am thinking to take some prefolds - they are quite compact and double as spewrags, pants off floor covers etc I would love to take my ittis and just give them a load of AIOs to be laundered but my care concerns are would they be washed with harsh detergents then hot tumbledried. I wonder would this then wear them out a bit or cause problems with buildup?
There is a small line at the bure and I have a travel line too so I am right there. I will probably only take a few nappies as I hope to spend alot of time at the beach/in the pool with Max and have +++ pants off time for Sam
I was thinking maybe 3 nappies a day for Max (he will swim probably 2x a day and wear undies sometimes) and 6 nappies for Sam. I will take sposies for overnights so should be able to get the washing done okay each day.
WB great idea about eenees - I totally forgot I had a packet of them in the cupboard I can use them with bummis covers or as pocket stuffers and i have stacks of imse flushable liners to go over the top.

    Lucky you going to Fiji!

When I was there, all 3 resorts we stayed at had a guest laundry, so maybe you should check whether they have a laundry as well as doing laundry.

If I need stuff to dry quickly, I use itti AIOs with hemp snap ins as they are much faster to dry than bamboo imo.

that's why i suggested you take a supply of your own MCN washing powder with you in your luggage, like in a ziplock bag. To put in with the dirty laundry "please use this powder on the nappies and do not tumbledry". If you don't think your wishes will be adhered to, i would not hand over the MCN. gee i am protective of the MCN LOL!

taking prefolds is a great idea. And if you have Ai2's that you're leaving at home, you could take all the snap in trifolds from those as well (if needed).

If you're using sposies for night, i hear many people mention (that use sposies at night) that they put a woollie soaker OVER the sposie, for extra protection from leaks. Cos unless there is a pootasophre, at least you won't have to wash the wool soaker for the duration of your holiday.

Flushable liners would be a must for me. They are a lifesaver for disposing of poos :-) when traveling

I am getting a bit excited now as it's about 6 weeks away
There is no guest laundry - I either do it myself or pay them. I think I'm better off doing my own - I am protective of my MCN too Gigi
