    Default my stash

I don't have pics, but need your advice on my stash

    Fitteds:
    XS CK Raphael x1
    XS Aqua Thirsties x1
    OSFM Cute Tooshies x3
OSFM Mandy Mac Hemp x1 (got B4B and its very very scratchy so may not keep it)
    OSFM BBB x 1
    OSFM BBH x 1

    Prefolds:
    4 x hemp prefolds
    4 x cotton prefolds

    Flats:
around 2 doz terry flats (lots will be needed for changemats/ spew cloths, ds was a chucker so used to go through a dozen in a few days at a minimum)
    6 x coloured flats

    AIO:
    sml Magicall x 1
    sml bubblebub x 1
    XS Bumgenius AIO x 1
OSFM Cushie Tushies couture x 1 (from ds- too small)

    Pockets:
OSFM haute aplix pocket x 2
    OSFM Green Kids x 1
    OSFM Bumgenius x 1
    Sml peapods x 1

    Covers:
    nb Shorties x 2
    XS ME Rikki x 1
Sml ME airflow (or w/eva they are called) x 1
size 1 Tots Bots Flexi wrap x 1

I also have a few nappies (mainly OSFM) coming from swaps. I have a few meds too, but just wanted to ask about what you think of what I have for the first few months.

My ds was 8lb and dr thinks this one will be smaller (like they can tell!!) so it won't be a huge baby anyway.

What else do I need in terms of nappies? Any thoughts? I don't know how I will go with prefolds, but I am going to TRY them, but am concerned that I will be tired and won't use them!

I had planned to make some but haven't really progressed very far. I have 5 wks to go so not sure how successful that would be. Last bubs came 2 wks early too!!

    Thanks for reading the epic!

I would get some more covers. I have 6 and I use them all in one day.

Also I don't think there is any difference in using a prefold and using a fitted in regards to you being tired. Put the prefolds in the covers and have them sitting there ready

do you just fold them into a pad? Or do you fold them into some other formation to slip inside the cover?

i would get a few more new born sized covers with leg gussets

don't wash or take the tags off them, that way, if hell freezes over and you DO have a big bubba, you can negotiate with the store to exchange them for the sized needed or return them.

    covers with leg gussets?
    bambino mio (ecobabe)
    imse vimse (new age nappies)
    thirsties (NN)
    bummibrites (the weewuns)
tots bots (not the most recent ones, the ones before that) (on sale at NN right now)
    diaperaps (at DDU)

i would also suggest some newborn sized boosters (from sustainable hemp products). These enable you to boost existing nappies, to get them to last a little longer. Perfect size to fit and not create leg gape. (we still use ours, and my bub is nearly 2, to boost the area she wets the most.)

A good sized wetbag, if you are going to have two in MCN, might be a baby beehinds wetbag.

And i would add a six or 12 pack of bamboo trifolds from booroi to the list.
    Nappy for nb
pocket stuffer for when nb is older

Prefolds/trifolds are so simple. Imagine an A4 piece of paper. you fold it into three. that's it. You lie a microfleece liner on top, put the whole thing into a cover. that is your nappy combo. simplicity.

look at this link, scroll down, it shows you how to fold a prefold Bamboo Fleece/Terry Prefold Nappy - Size 1 - 12pk + BONUS Snappi [BPF-S1-12] - $94.95 : Booroi Essentials Australia, Modern Cloth Nappies, Clothing, Accessories and Gifts for Baby

    your stash sounds great

i did some organisational things to simplify the Early Daze.

elevating nappy bucket in teh loo
    elevating washer and drier
(my home water birth turned into an emergency C, so lucky i did this!!!)

labelled baskets and trays next to changetable
basket of fitteds, basket of prefolds, next to basket of covers
    basket of change table mats
tray of liners, tray of nappyrash stuff, powder
    basket of wipes

printed out washing MCN instructions to stick on laundry door - so if other people washed the MCN, they would know what to do. If I washed MCN and coudln't think straight, i coudl just read that page

so when i came home, very unwell from c-section disaster, super tired with a nb and coudln't think straight, squalling bubba on the changetable etc - my mind gone to mush - the organisation i had put in place really helped me and my dh to cope. (that, and being to ask questions on NC when i was so stuck!!!). sleep deprivation is a killer heh.

different things work for different people. i think it (labels, baskets) was just MY way of "nesting" LOL. and i would hear dh muttering to himself "fitted, needs cover", reading my labels to help him.

    thanksfor the advice!

.. I guess since we had all the issues with the bub (and thinking that we couldn't nest or nuy anything in case something happened- which we were told there was a big chance it might..!) we haven't really had the most time to become organised yet.

As of last week the newby has a room but there is no furniture in it... so once I have a chest of drawers and a nappy stacker, I will feel that I can visualise what I do and don't have. I went two weeks early last time and worry that if I do this time I will feel out of control with stuff everywhere (I know that won't happen.. but you know how it is..).

How many more covers do you think I should get?

Would small covers fit over terry flats or would meds be better?

    Are fleece covers worthwhile?

How many boosters would you go through in a day and what nappies do you need to boost for a newborn? The nappies you are using at night? Can you you use them to boost the flats?

Are the booroi prefolds cotton or bamboo? They must shrink after washing as the prefolds I have are too big for the covers so far (but I haven't yet washed them..).

Thanks again.. sorry for more questions!

Wow, so it's all really happening for you now, how scary to have to go THIS far thru a pregnancy, being scared - you poor thing.

How many more covers do you think I should get?
that is soooo hard to say! but definately more nb sized ones.

Would small covers fit over terry flats or would meds be better?
with the bamboo prefolds and the nb and small fitteds - NB COVERS
with the flats - SMALL COVERS (cos flats are bulkier)
and WHEN you can put your bub into the OSFA nappies, is very individual.

    Are fleece covers worthwhile?
we used Malden Mills fleece from nb stage, that was great. I saw some Staccinator nb covers on the booroi site. Not on car trips though, i think you might get compression leaks in the car seat.

How many boosters would you go through in a day and what nappies do you need to boost for a newborn? The nappies you are using at night? Can you you use them to boost the flats?
THe nb boosters you can use with ANY nappy system.
    - inside a fitted
    - outside a fitted *but inside the cover*
    - inside an AIO
    - inside a pocket
    - inside a flat
    - inside a contour

The principle of boosting, is to use them when you need them. If you bub is wetting thru a nappy every 15 mins, i'd put some boosters in quicksmart! All you are doing , is ADDING more absorbent fabric, to the spot they need it. They might wet the most, in teh front or the back, so that's where you put the booster.

My nb woke every two hours to feed, so we didn't get a chance to find out what happened after an 8 hour sleep (i wish!!!).

You can certainly put a booster inside a flat nappy. will make them last a bit longer.

We went thru 20 changes a day with a frequently weeing pooping machine, changed before and after every feed. Other people do less changes and maybe their baby only poops once every few days. You just don't know until you meet your brand new little person, what their pattern will be like.

i'm just super glad we had a LIttle Squirt installed before she arrived, that has made life much easier - being able to deal with the poop hasslefree.

Are the booroi prefolds cotton or bamboo? They must shrink after washing as the prefolds I have are too big for the covers so far (but I haven't yet washed them..).

look at this link (clicke on the bit that is underlined), scroll down, it shows you how to fold a prefold Bamboo Fleece/Terry Prefold Nappy - Size 1 - 12pk + BONUS Snappi [BPF-S1-12] - $94.95 : Booroi Essentials Australia, Modern Cloth Nappies, Clothing, Accessories and Gifts for Baby

    hemp prefolds - prewash 6 - 8 times
cotton prefolds - prewash whatever seller told you to do
    bamboo prefolds - prewash once

Thanks again.. sorry for more questions!
don't worry, you're a bit stressed and you're learning somethign new, of course you have questions - that's the best way to learn stuff, we all ask to learn stuff

I prewashed many times. There is a boiling technique which takes the many washes away and you just have to do it once. Can't think of where I saw it but someone on here probably knows more about it.

How many boosters would you go through in a day and what nappies do you need to boost for a newborn? The nappies you are using at night? Can you you use them to boost the flats?
I would go through maybe 2 boosters. Ash is almost 3 weeks, and for night I use Cute tooshies bamboo delights with the small snap in booster from a baby beehinds bamboo nappy and then either longies or a pul cover. This lasts him all night (12 till 8am). With flanny flats I didn't bother boosting because you would still need to change soooo reguarly it wouldn't be worth it.

    Are fleece covers worthwhile?
I'm sure they are. I don't have any thought. Best part is you can make these yourself if you have a sewing machine and a little time

Would small covers fit over terry flats or would meds be better?
Depends on the size of your bub. I didn't bother with terry flats when Ash came along cos he was 11 pounds (5kg). I did just test it out on him thought and the small bbh pul covers don't fit over a terry flat on him, but if you have such a big baby as him then you can just go to small nappies cos nothing newborn sized fitted him anyways.

I'm probably onyl going to confuse you more here....sorry, just wanted to give you my recent experience.

Fitted nappies like Kissaluvs, Raphaels are awesome and boosted with bamboo they do a great job. I tried PUL on my bub once and couldn't bare to leave it on her, we use fleece or wool now.

AIOs I like are bitti delish, bubblebubs and honeyboys.

Even though they grow quickly it's worthwhile getting sized nappies in smalls or XS.
