Default Do I need backup prefolds? Or stick with the fitteds?

I have been using cloth on my twins for a year now, but unfortunately I only found out about MCN when they were 6 months old. I have another set of twins on the way, so I'm just wondering about what I'll need for a newborn (as in first day onwards, I will end up using AIO's once we get through the first few months).

I have Kissaluvs coming my way, I have Thirsties V2 and Bummis NB covers, I already have a few bamboo/hemp prefolds from pockets I have (however they do seem to be a little on the 'not so soft' side).

Do I need to buy more prefolds, or do I stick with the fitteds? Which prefolds? (bamboo terry/bamboo fleece/chinese etc). And where do I buy good quality ones?

Any other suggestions on other fitteds? What about swaddlebees NB? Are BBB's too bulky? I'm ready to do a big buy up but I'm trying to be smart and not buy things I wont need.

I'll be grateful for your advice!

    Congratulations!

I found BBBs far too bulky on DS at first, and he was 4kg when he was born. Probably not the best NB option out there. I haven't tried any of the other brands you mentioned, so I'll leave it to someone else to comment on them.

All nappies I had were too big for my dd until she was about 4 weeks old, I think. She was just 3200g at birth and the bbh were big on here for a while. I would have gotten more prefolds and good covers for the beginning had I known. I got some great supersoft bamboo prefolds on nurturenappies - I am not sure if they do the newbown size anymore, but if you're after soft, those luxury ones will do the trick!
I know booroi do a good deal with their bamboo ones, butI don't know about the quality, I haven't tried them. Someone else might be able to help. Also, I think there are some on buyforbaby at the moment, so you can try there.

We f/t MCN our #3 from birth (#1 and #2 were in terry flats) and used home made one-size fitteds, with gussets and Snappi closure. They fit him from birth (7lb 14oz) with small covers (Bummis and Motherease Rikki I think).

I don't think prefolds are a 'need' iykwim but they are quite versatile in terms of size for smaller Bubs.
I will add tho that I've made a heap of NB fitted nappies with Snappi closure (you can buy similar, for example the bamboo NB ones that Bubblebubs does are Snappi closure) and these you can fold down the rise if need be for a smaller NB.
and yep I prefer fitted+cover for NB as well, just for the double elastic for the poo.
Prefolds you can also use, as you know, later for stuffing pockets/boosting.

So I'd be thinking NB/small in fitted/Snappiable outer for max flex when they're little, then on to the one-size with prefolds if you want them. means also that if the Babies grow at different rates post birth, then any nappy will still fit either one iykwim.

I'm layby'ing some stretch bamboo prefolds from Donna at Bits for Bots for this Baby as I've heard great things about them and having seen a sample they are very very soft and lush.

In general for nappies I do prefer to have some bamboo/hemp in there, with say a knit print or terry outer, just for the absorbency.

(sorry if that's a bit all over the place!)

Thanks for your advice (and your congratulations ). My last twins were both over 3.5kg at birth with chubby, chubby legs (I was expecting the skinned rabbit effect but no, I breed them big ) so I'm hoping we'll be able to get into fitteds off the mark.

If not......I'll just have to buy another option once they arrive ( looking for an excuse to buy more at all?)

    Thanks,

    Kylie

I also hear the Bubblebubs NB snappiables are very good at first. I also loved my Whizz Kidz fitteds, they were great.

I have some of the Bubblebubs BamBams here awaiting our bub's arrival; they look fabulous; I imagine they will be really absorbent and fit for quite a while. I bought them on the recommendation of many people who have used them and they were their favs

Two lots of twins!! WOW!! Congratulations!!!

    Congrats on your double bundles.

I used fitteds from birth as my bub was 3.8kg so she fitted into OSFM quite soon.

My sisters bub on the other hand is only 3kg, and she is getting great use out of bamboo prefolds. They did need boosting at the back coz she had a girl, but they are unreal and fit sooooo well!!

    that and thirsties NB covers

2 bundles at 3.5kg, thats ace!!

    Tikki, your due any second!!
