Default When do you change the nappy at night?

    Hi everyone,

When do you change your babies nappy at night?

I have just discovered with the nappies I have I need to change my 5mo nappy at night as it is soaked through by the morning.

Should I change when he wakes and before I feed him?

    What do you do?

    Thanks

When my lot were bubbas, I would have to change before a feed, and then after during the night (yes with sposies as well)
Little terrors were peeing & pooing machines LOL

DS3 who is now a toddler gets changed before i go to bed.
Has done since he night weened at 2 /12yo.

I got better nappies!!! Sorry, probably not the answer you were after?? I would just do whatever works best for your little man - so try it before a feed, try it after, see what disturbs him least - I hate having to change in the middle of the night (also because it disturbs DD too much and if she gets really upset she throws up due to reflux) and now will only do it on the rare occasion there's a poo at 4 or 5am. I don't use another night nappy then, though - just something that will get us through another hour or two.

Maybe someone else will have something more productive to add....

Oh, btw, what sort of nappies and covers are you using at the moment? Do you use something with bamboo in it and a wool cover??? That would be my biggest recommendation. No matter what brand, go with bamboo and wool! Great combo for getting through the night

    I don't do night changes

Lucy stopped pooing through the night at about 10 days old and I haven't changed during the night since then.

I just have a nappy/booster system that lasts till morning and change them first thing when they wake up. I have a BIG wee-er here but there are some super-thirsty night nappy options out there.

If you do a search there has also been lots of good discussions on here about dealing with heavy wetters at night.

There is no way I'd be waking a bubba to change a nappy, so if you have to do it then I guess before a feed is best.

I used to feed one side when the baby awoke for a feed (because Lily wouldn't wait ), then change the nappy and feed baby to sleep on the other side.

This is what I did. It helps wake them to feed better on the other side.
Awake baby = more milk taken in for second side = longer sleep

Same as Tik... I didn't bother with dedicated night nappies when she was smaller because she grew so fast.
Now that she's bigger we use night AIOs which are on her from about 7 or 8 when she goes to bed, till morning.

Oh, I did say something about changing AFTER a feed - what I was referring to was a couple of (rare I think) people I know whose bubbas could be changed in their sleep after a feed if required - so if it's not going to wake bub up, it's a good option

I agree with Fiona... as soon as he stopped pooing during the night, I have never changed a single nappy during the night.
And yes, he was/is a monster wee'er too.
You just need more absorbent nappies ... or you need to boost the ones that you have more.
When Lachie was that age he was probably weeing the most that he ever has, because he was feeding the most frequently, and we definitely found options that meant he wasn't completely saturated by morning... it is possible
You need heavy, thick bamboo fleece or terry, and you need to boost inside and outside the nappy, AND you need a great performing/great fitting cover.
    not too hard

if he woke up and was wet, I changed him (had a pile of nappies on the bed next to me, and just changed the nappy before rolling over and feeding back to sleep)
we did this up until he stopped wetting his nappy overnight, which was somewhere between 12mths and 18mths. (I know that's not typical, but that's how it happened, lol!)
