has been a few months since I have asked any questions and now bubs is getting closer (six weeks) thought I might ask some more!!!!!!!!
Could someone please critique my list of nappy supplies and tell me in their opinion what else I will need????? I shouldn't have a problem washing everyday as DH will be home for the first six to eight weeks and am trying not to spend too much for such a short stage. ok here goes

6 x organic cotton muslin squares
1 x Bumgenius 3.0 ( hoping to make these our fulltime nappy later so roadtesting)

1 x NB bummis superbrite cover
OTHER BITS AND PIECES
36 x cloth wipes
microfleece from spotlight to make into liners
eenees flushable liners for out and about and merconium stage

2 x snappis (cant use pins due to hand tremor, eek!!!)
I JUST KNOW I HAVE FORGOTTEN SOMETHING OBVIOUS..........PLEASE HELP????
I'm just trying to remember back to newborn days! I just had terry flats and some very inferior covers. I hardly used my covers at all. If you're washing every day I think you'll have enough.
I don't have any peapods, so I'm not sure what the inserts are like. I think though that they will work ok in a NB cover. Depending on your bub's size you might even be able to use the peapods from fairly early on.
HTH I'm sure someone with a more recent newborn experience will be along soon.
Melanie, Mum to Eden 5 & Caelan 3 going on 18
14.3 kgs gone
I never own a Peapod so can't comment on the insert, but personally I won't be relying on pockets on early days/weeks. Newborns poo a lot and they're mega messy I find fitteds and good covers contain those pooplosion best. My bub's poo starts to get a bit more solid now so *some* pockets and AIOs work very well
I'd be getting some more good fitteds. I find sized fitteds are better than OSFA for my bub as he's quite small (2.9kg at birth). Some small covers and more snappis, you would be amazed how easy you can lose them
Oh and some small boosters if you have a super wee machine like mine lol Most of nb and small nappies aren't very absorbent and even though you often change nappies, there are times that you need them to last a bit longer than just one wee
Mummy to darling Rebecca (AKA Becky) big 4 yr old & Turbo charged James is 1!
I agree with the others, used a fitted and cover for the first few months, and up till about a week ago was also fitted and cover. We couldnt even do stay dry inners, had to be absorbent against the bottom
You dont have to do this though, prefolds, terry flats etc... would be the same, i had fitteds coz i inherited and made them. Many NB fitteds we out weed!
Some one sized fitteds do fit from a younger age though. I loved my cute tooshies and mandy macs.
You have a good amount of covers, maybe get 1 or 2 smalls too.
You need enough for about 24-36 changes, 12 for the day, 12 for the wash and 12 for the line. They dont all have to be fitteds though, as i said terry flats as well. (we went through about 8 a day, not 12, depends on your bub though)
Mini boosters are great as well, as i said earlier we outweed all the time, so i needed to boost everything. Even boosted my terry flats! We were using Cute tooshies with all the inserts from about 4 weeks and soaking them.
I don't think there is in reason why you couldn't use your peapod inserts as pad folds in a good NB cover.
when bub fits the sml peapods (doubt he will at birth) you could even lay them inside rather then in the pocket & use them that way?
I haven't had a bub in cloth yet, but from what others have said in various other threads, I would probably get a few terry flats. Even if they're just the cheapies from the supermarket. They can tie you over during wash time and can also be used for so many other things (to use as a change pad cover, wipe up milky spews, use as burp cloths,...)
Obviously, the bamboo ones are going to be more absorbent, but also more expensive.
bam bams from Bubblebubs that do up with a snappi are great : ) I was able to use these from day one on my newborn as they have a snap down front. My DD was 3812 born and can still fit into them easily now with the snap down front undone. She is now about 5.5 kilos. The fit around the leg is great for containing newborn/ breastfed poos. They do need a cover but the xs thirsties covers you have and the nb bummis covers will be fine over them as they are the two covers I used. My DD is now in a small bummis cover though but can still fit the xs thirsties cover. So you will get more use from the thirsties covers.
Some of my other specific newborn sized nappies no longer fit as she has a chubby waist. So the bam bams are good value as still fitting her and very absorbent. I have 4 but I would probably get 6 if I was starting out again.
I have used medium peapods and like others have said, not sure how pockets go on a newborn. I have only used fitteds and AIO's with my DD. I used pockets with my son from about 6 months.
Can't go past small Bubblebubs either. Would skip the NB size, only had 2 of these and they stopped fitting at about 8 - 10 weeks. The smalls have fit from early on and still fit now. Great for middle of the night nappy changes as aplix, don't have to worry about snappis/ covers or snaps.
Good luck with your new baby. My DD has hardly worn many disposables and I have a stash of about 24 nappies, wash every second day, but have ran out a few times as in having to grab one off the drying rack to put on her. I have some AI2's so the shells dry quicker and can just snap in one of my extra inserts as they take longer to dry.
4 covers would be heaps but maybe you might need a few more nappies. Depends on how often your bubs poo's : ) DS pooed with every feed. DD was only going every few days but now goes 3 -4 times every day : ) this is why I started to run out of nappies.
I use on average between 8 - 10 nappies every 24 hours. Washing everyday you will still have to allow for drying time.
I didnt start using cloth till my Marlie was 5 weeks old, i didnt have flats only AIO and peapods (I did have newborn nappies but they were all to big for him, not enough meat on the legs!)
I must say that I can only use the peapods without the microfleece as Marlie flairs up quiet badly to it....I have just bought some Bumgenius with the microfleece that goes inside but its not directly on his skin...
They grow so quick though and you might only get 6-7 weeks in a small size....(well Marlie did!) and even now at nearly 3mths old the small sizes (so my MA's) are too small....
Id use the prefolds with a cover, wish Id know about this before I went buying!
