Default Wool Covers wicking at night - Help!

    Good Morning, Help, Help!!

I am a recent convert. I am loving cloth! Love it, love it, love it! EXCEPT FOR NIGHT! I can't get it to work no matter what I do. I am using BBH Bamboo with BBH lanolised wool covers and I alway get wicking along the top of the nappy. I have tried everything, boosting between the nappy and cover as well as moving the boosting around inside the nappy. The medium just covers the top of the nappy so I thought I may need to go into the larges' and got them out and lanolised them and the same thing happened! I don't want to use sposies at night, but I don't want him to be uncomfortable either, he sleeps bad enough as it is. I do do a rollover feed (he is generally asleep) and I don't change him for this as its the only feed he doesn't fight me on and it's nice just to pop him back into bed. Have I wasted my money on these covers? Do I need to buy dedicated night nappies? The woman from the site I brought them off advised me that they would be fine for night time. I know one of you beautiful ladies will have some great advise for me....

When you say wicking on top of the nappy - is the nappy poking out of cover? Or do you mean wicking on the foe elastic that nappy cover has?

They do generally work ok for night for most people.

I couldn't use the BBB wool covers due to the edge wicking, but found success using the disana wool covers or even home made wool interlock covers.

Is the extra boosting though helping the body of the nappy?

Yeah, it seem to be a problem with the band - I know that obviously if the nappy is sticking out I am going to get wicking, thats why I swapped to the large, I thought the bit of extra ris may solve the problem, DS is mainly a tummy sleeper, could that have something to do with it? Thanks for your help.

yep, being a tummy sleeper will definitely be contributing to the problem.
have you tried putting your extra boosting at the front of the nappy?
and how are you arranging the inserts inside the nappy? You may find that swapping the small booster to the front snaps, and having the large insert snapped into the back and then folded so you've got it doubled over at the front of the nappy (so 3 layers of booster at the front) might help.
also, making sure that his penis is pointing down when the nappy goes on!

if there's plenty of boosting at the front, that should help stop the nappy from getting so saturated at the front, which should lessen the wicking of the FOE.

eta ~ making sure the cover is pulled up as high as possible at the front should help too, to try to avoid contact between the FOE and the nappy

    Everything Bek said

We couldn't use BBB at night though, only during day sleeps (when he was younger).
Although if I do have to now, I boost between the nappy & cover....
I don't use a BBH wool cover anymore, I use a good fitted wool soaker with a high rise.

sounds like you might get better results from a dedicated night nappy and a wool soaker ime

    Hi cheekymonkey20

I use bbb at nights too and had the same problem even with the large so I bought a disina wool cover (lanolised) from The Wee Wuns I think I bought the extra large. (ds2 is 15mths ) I still put the booster in between the nappy and the wool cover. Problem solved

Lanolising the cover doesnt prevent leaks, all it does it extend the time between washes as the lanolin cleanses the wool between wears. Thats my understanding of it anyway.

I would second getting a cover without the cotton binding with a nice high rise. The ones above from the wee wuns are nice.
