Unhappy what am I going to do??? aaaargh!! help!

well Xavier is a wetting machine- last night was in a bbh boosted on outside with a peapods bamboo trifold and woollen soaker.. he didn't wet 1hru the outer boosting but the inside of the nappy was soaking after 1.5 hours the trifold was half wet.

I can't keep up with him today.. he goes to sleep and wakes after such a short time with a wet nappy- he would have a wet nappy everytime I checked him today. As soon as he is dry he calms down. He is never going to sleep at this rate....

I have had to resort to a disposable tonight as he has been unsettled all day and I didn;t want to risk him waking up after 20 mins with a wet nappy.

Is this a problem that I will just have to "deal with" until he starts weeing less? Surely other newborns are not wet all the time.he would feed three hourly so has around 8 feeds per day so not excessive or anything..

He did his first 6 hour sleep the other night (for some reaon he didn't wake up due to a wet nappy) but I am worried it will never happen again if the wet bottom bothers him.

I didn't start ds1 in cloth til he was 15 mths old so he didn't care about feeling wet, so have not encountered this issue before.

has anyone got any ideas? I have all these beautiful nappies that I want to put Xavier in but if he is going to be upset all the time, I don't know what I am going to do..

have you got a stay dry liner in? This would have the same effect as a disposable in terms of what he feels against his skin for his comfort = sleep. I'd also put in a decent amount of pure cornflour (not the one with wheat in it) - this combo for Zeke, with bamboo and bamboo boosting + wool cover worked very well - so well that even if the nappy was soaked HE and his cornflour, were dry...

I don't think it matters much, so long as it's bamboo iywkim
Specifically though it was a Pea Pods pocket (so PUL outer and mfleece inner), stuffed with bamboo and boosted with bamboo, plus the woolies on the outside (as pants mostly but they were just that little bit extra to help with evap rather than yet another booster), and the cornflour... if I had any here I'd post you one to try but sold and/or gave mine away when Zeke TTd.

I could have gone with an all bamboo nappy, and added the fleece liner, but this above combo worked for us as it was easy to stuff as a day nappy, easy to stuff as a night nappy, and with black inner was excellent for camping lol so with mods it became the 'everything' nappy iykwim. Also having the ALL fleece liner ie pocket inner meant that no part of his skin stayed wet iykwim - so you could use any pocket that was fleece inner... even a pocket fitted (ie bamboo nappy, fleece lined). It also didn't end up as bulky but still had good containment. Even if the nappy was SOAKED in the morning, he wasn't and neither were his clothes or sheets so I was happy lol.

Have you got a BBB??? I tried the current combo with a BBH and Marlie soaked through.....

I find that the Bamboo works really well! (you could also try a PUL cover after the outter booster with a woollen soaker??)

I have a BBB with a bamboo outter booster, with a BBH wool cover (only just bought and its awesome!) or i have a woollen soaker...

Emily hated feeling wet too (used to scream the house down as soon as she'd wet), so I now only buy nappies with stay dry inners, either microfleece, suedecloth or polyester velour. Maybe for the meantime, keep using what you're using but cut a piece of microfleece (or regular polarfleece) to the shape of the nappy and put that inside so that as much of his skin is covered as possible. It doesn't matter if the fleece sticks out of the nappy as it isn't a wicking fabric. He should feel dry then.

Gosh, i have no idea then.....unless you change him during the night?? how often is he feeding at night??

If you use an absorbant nappy then he may not feel it? I was just saying bamboo at nights absorb well here compared to others......

poor bubba! babies don't like to feel wet any more than we do!
    I think you've got 2 main options:
    - go with something with a totally 'stay-dry' inner
    - change as soon as he's wet (or look into EC as a third option!)

most babies don't wee while they're actually asleep, in my experience they will wake or rouse if they need to pee. when Ben was a newborn, he would pee as often as every 5-10mins, but that stretched out to longer as he got older. we found that when he was a newborn, he would pee pretty much every time he woke at night, but as he got older he started to re-settle (usually with a quick boob) without having to pee every time. of course each baby will be different, but the idea of changing every time he pees won't always be as 'full-on' as it is now while he's a newborn!
and if you preserve that instinct to not want to be wet, it means you don't have to 'un-nappy-train' when it comes to toilet learning further down the track

As PP said I would go with a stay dry liner...either a lay in one or a nappy that comes with one.

I started DD in cloth at 2.5 mths using BGs with an extra bamboo absorber...this worked up till recently.

Now she is either in a BBB or a Sandman...sandman are brilliant as their layin boosters have stay dry liners.

My girls as newborns wet every 5-10 minutes when they were awake too. I changed every time they were wet - but by #2 I had learnt about EC so got some of the wee and most of the poo in the potty. It saved my sanity :-) The frequency of wetting reduces as they get older.

And like Bek said with Ben, my DDs also didn't ever wet when really asleep, only when they woke or stirred.

The night time is ok, but day time sux...

he feeds 2-3 times during night- or once like last night (yay) and I change him during each feed.. do one side.. change him then the other side.. but we had to use a sposie last night as I only had prefolds left (which would be hopeless given my concerns about him feeling wet!!).

The cherubs kiss I can use for a short time during day if I boost with bamboo- but he goes straight thru it. I can use AIO but don't trust during night.

I only use bamboo for nights atm but like I said he weeeeeeeeees straight thru and feels v wet. dh asks everytime he cries now.. "is it the nappy again??"

I think sandmans would be too big on my newborn.. he is porking up but still has teeny chicken legs!

did you use BG one size or sized ones??

I used BG one size...(more economical) She was pretty chubby at 2.5 mths and went straight to the 2nd level of snaps. My friend stared her little man at about 2 mths and just used 2 newborn boosters instead of the big one.

I had the same prob with my little one...I'd have to change three or four times a night and even then most of the time I would still wake up with a leaky nappy. try a Genesa Forge nappy she makes sized ones so u should be able to get one to fit a little bub. they are seriously absorbant, use windpro/malden mills fleece, so more breathable than PUL. I am still amazed that I dont have to worry about him peeing everywhere and they're not bulky at all, they are totally worth it. I am so in love with them and shes just bought out a range of yummy minkees lined with windpro so totally lush!

just thought I'd post and say thanks for all the suggestions!
Xavier slept from 7.30- 12 midnight with a blueberry pocket stuffed with a BBB long booster and a microfibre insert, covered with a woollen soaker (as the pocket is still too big and gapes around the legs)....

what a legend.... he then went back to bed til 5.10am...

I def think the stay dry inners will be a winner.. his bottom was dry even though the bamboo was wet- but not soaking!!!

    I am sooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
