    Default Are my suspicions correct?

S was excellent with the potty until recently. I am not sure what happened... I have suspicions but don't know if they're what actually caused her to regress.

    The story:

The other day I had to go to a dentist appointment in Brisbane. I didn't have any nappies available (on the line or buried in their room that's being rearranged) so I rang MIL and asked her to get me some sposies ( to me for not being more organised). I asked her to get me nappies for the weight range 8-15kg as that would cover both kids.

I rock up and she's like ohhhh I couldn't remember what you said (and what she told me she wrote down ) so I bought these. Uhhh... up to 8kg nappies and toilet training pants (one wet crap from hu$$ie$).... great. So poor H gets her napkini and S gets hers on (well, they fit her at least!). OT but she also told SIL that my dentist appointment was at 12:30pm (despite my telling her countless times it was at 2PM) so pretty much as soon as I arrived we had to race back out the door as SIL was already at the train station.

Everything was sweet until I went for my dentist appointment. When I came back out I called them and they were at Target. So I met them over there... they tell me that S wet through the nappy and all over her pants... but they were still shopping???????????? So poor S has walked around for over 1/2 hour in wet pants until I got back... they had the nappy bag and everything necessary to change her.

So that was the start of it.

Then we get to my brother's house... nephew plays a game of "pee on nanny's thongs" but anyway they encourage her to pee on the cement etc.

Get her home and she's been anti-potty ever since. I've got her to pee on it maybe once. SIGH. Add to this H did explosive poos and I had to wash her car seat twice.

Today she has peed on the hallway floor, diarrhoea poo/pee on the study floor, peed on the kitchen lino and finally in their bedroom... for which my mother screamed at her and told her she was naughty! I gave S big cuddles and told her it was an accident but that maybe she should put a nappy back on for now which she accepted (after she stopped crying her little eyes out!)

So I ... I'm thinking all the above is why... but I'm not sure and I don't know how to fix it really except for going back to having a nappy on her all the time which sucks because she was doing so well! I ask her what's wrong and she just shrugs and says NO POTTY!

    Any thoughts?

oh the poor kid. she's been traumatised hasn't she?
I'd let her gauge where she wants to be at at this stage, shes clearly upset and yes you are right, this ordeal will have affected her the poor cherub.

not fair of your mum to be like that to her, that's a bit harsh me thinks....

It really made me angry Cathy... obviously there's a problem otherwise she wouldn't be doing it. She fully SCREAMED at her... like really nasty barking scream. Scared S and made things 100 times worse IMO.

I've already had one argument with my mother today over her giving S things when I tell her not to (apple juice poppers by the 1/2 dozen, chocolates, lollies, cake...). That's another part of the problem I think is she gets full up on apple juice and ribena (wtf is wrong with water exactly?!) and I think by the time S realises she needs the potty it's too late.

    Geez Susan thats awful

TT can be hard enough at the best of times without this extra pressure as well

if she is happy to wear the nappies for now - maybe just leave it a few days and then start talking about the potty again

Wow, it sounds like you are living a nightmare. Will you be living with your mother for long? Can you just say - stuff it - and go back to nappies till you are back at home without the family interference?

What's with screaming at a 2 yr old for weeing on the floor???

She wouldn't want to come to my house where it's a daily occurence

I'm no expert but I think I'd just leave the nappies off a while longer, clean up the messes without a fuss and now that she's home in her usual environment hope that things just settle back to the way they were.

If you ask her if she'd like to wear a nappy and she says yes - then just go with it and maybe start the whole process over in a week or two. A shame when she was doing so well.

DD was toilet trained for almost a year then regressed when DS was born which was sooo frustrating. I just kept reminding her to go to the toilet like ALL the time so she was conscious of (plus put her back in nappies which she soo got sick of anyway
