    Default Naptime Poo

The past 3 days in a row E has done a poo after I've put him down for his nap.

The 1st day he went to sleep anyway. He was very smelly when I went in to check him and I tried to change him but ended up leaving him (yep, terrible mum nominee) because I was so desperate for him to have a nap. (We'd been on holidays the previous week and he barely napped at all ... and still needs it.)

Today and yesterday he's pooed and I've gone in to change his nappy because he was still awake. Both times he was still sleepy and obviously had been on the verge of sleeping but then woke right up. Now he's chatting in his cot and I know he's not going to nap again. I thought we'd be fine today because he'd already done a poo this morning and usually he only does one a day.

He's only just started learning (or telling us) when he needs to go to the toilet. We're trying to do lots of nappy free time when we're home during the day and he's managed a couple of wees on the potty. He hasn't done a poo on there yet though.

I even sat him on the potty just before his pre-naptime story but ... nothing!

Any suggestions? I guess I'm not really expecting any solutions, I'm just sharing my frustration!! (I was looking forward to a nap today!)

Yes, good point. When I think about it, the last couple of days we've been out and then come straight home and story & bed ... he's always desperate to play with his toys so I haven't wanted him to get excited by them before getting ready for a nap.

DS has the same issues He poos 50% of the time just before he goes off to sleep. He usually comes out and tells me though but then he is wide awake

I have been doing a routine sheet with Lucas before bed at night - which might be worth a try but he is in jocks during the day and a nappy for sleeps. It is a sheet of A4 paper with photos - bath, teeth cleaning, toilet time, nappy sleeping bag, stories, songs, bed. He can recognise the pictures and knows the routine and we gently remind him about it if he gets distracted. Worth a shot i suppose? Good luck with it.

That's a good idea Meagan. He's pretty good with his bedtime routine because we've been doing it for so long but the potty is fairly new.

A couple of times in the last week or so he's talked about poo so I've told him to sit on the potty and he's sat down & nothing's happened so he gets up ... then poos on the floor pretty soon after! I guess he's just still learning about the urge and what to do!

One thing my mum suggested I try with Lucas to get him to poo was to say to him 'come on Lucas you can sit on the potty/toilet and do a poo while I read you this story' So you set them up mentally to do it without allowing an option of 'do you need to do a poo' and then the story reading provides a distraction while they are pooing and gets them to sit still long enough for it to get going. Sometime though the story was too interesting and he couldn't concentrate on the pooing . It certainly is an interesting journey!!

Same boat exactly - here the poo/wee comes a bit after Max mentioning pot. I get very bored but I sit with him and sing songs, read books, pop him on and off and then I can get the poo/wee into the pot about 10 minutes later. He gets a gold star for a wee or a coloured star for a poo. It seems to keep him keen enough to hang around the pot for 10 minutes Today was hooray day - I have had no nappy changes - caught all wees and poos and we have 4 stars on the calendar!
