Question A TT seat thingy, with steps?

Has anyone used a toilet seat thingy with steps? (There's one called a Lipske? I think) Can you use these when you start TT?

Are they any good, or should I just use a step in front of the loo and a seat inner.

Or is it better to start with a potty? I don't really want to use a potty if we don't need one!

As you can tell I'm VERY knowledgeable about TT! My 13month old has just started saying POO when she needs to poo (or wee!) occasionally, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to try getting her used to sitting on the toilet. Don't worry I have no expectations of actual TT at this age!! (even though my mother in law said 'all mine were trained by 12months!!' - thats because she sat them on the toilet all day i'm sure!! - and my hubby has a very strange issues with having a clean bum - so i think i'll stay well away from her technique and advice!!!!!

So any thought on types of step thingys, whether they work with small toddlers and where I can get one etc would be great!

those step seats we had for ds's and they are great i think .
would try a potty if you arent sure tho cos they are easier when they are tiny. as they arent up high either sitting on the toilet.

We had one of the steps and handles with the seat attached which we used for Zoe and Conor and is now in use by BF for her little one. Was about $30 from Big W.

I personally skipped the potty didn't want to have to do an inbetween step for TT, thankfully my two had no issues with the big toilet.

that's good to know pip, i don't really want an inbetween step either!! I let bubba in the toilet with me, and show her when I flush it etc so hopefully she won't get scared of it!! I have sat her on the big toilet a couple of times, she looks so tiny with her bum hanging in mid air, i can see why they would get scared of it!!

I also picked up a little padded seat that folds up into a little bag that I use to tuck under the pram/in the nappy bag when out and about. It sits on a big toiled seat to make it smaller that way I didn't have to worry about lining up in parents toilet and the possibility of an accident whilst waiting, plus it made the bigger toilets a little smaller to line up with what she was sitting on at home. I got it from Big w as well.

My DD is one of the ones with toilet fear. We started using the potty at around 6 months, and now at 18 months she (sometimes) uses it by herself when not wearing a nappy and regularly lets us know when she needs to go. We tried the steps when she started walking but she couldn't climb up and turn around. A toilet seat insert or fold up padded seat all get an emphatic "nooooooooooooooo" and she wont go near the toilet when they are around. She loves the toilet lid, the metal toilet roll holder, the little squirt etc and would play in there for hours if I let her, but if she thinks she might have to use it there are tears.

I'd say give it a go, I no idea why my DD has toilet fear and am happy for her to use the potty for a while yet, but if you can introduce it without a fuss all the better!

I just spotted one of those steps with seat attached at Toys R Us yesterday if it is easier for you to get there.

Well I wouldn't say Felicity had a toliet fear but she was never keen on the lipske step thing or the padded fold up toilet seat thing either so I had no choice but to do the potty thing with the idea that I'd have to just deal with the in between issues but you know what..

One day just after her third birthday she just decided that she was a big girl and she'd just pull herself up onto the big toilet and do a wee and thats whats happened every day since. The potty was then redundant.

So all my fears and thoughts were for no reason because she just did it herself when she was ready. No input from me.

The one potty type purchase that has been the best thing was the potette from big w that is a fold up potty for travelling. It comes with bags for throwing the wee away but I just use the frame if it's a wee and the bag and frame if it's a poo.

I didn't really like the step-seat thingy. With my wriggly kids, I found it moved and pinched legs. Better was one of those under the loo seat type ones and a little step for extra help.

My DD2 all of a sudden refused to go to potty any more (she was 16mnths when TT) and kept trying to get on the big tilet (toilet) so I got one of the step seat things - it worked great for us..... DS after watching big sis didn't want the potty either just went straight to the seat/steps,
    Good luck with the TT
