Haven't mentioned it before.............but Jess is toilet trained during the day!!!
Some might not know about her journey - apart from numerous other health conditions, she was born with a form of spina bifida with a tethered spinal cord, sacral deformities and her anus in the wrong spot (it was right next to her vagina).
She had surgery to reposition her anus at 18 months old, but was still completely bowel incontinent - no ability to hold it in, or push it out, or build up a complete stool, she was chronically constipated too due to the deformities.
So in October last year (Halloween) she had a surgery called a MACE procedure where they open a port (stoma?) on her belly through the end of the appendix and now every day we put a catheter in there and flush water through her bowel for an antegrade (top down) enema.
This has resulted in no more pooing for her. So at 3.5 years old she could *finally* come out of nappies. She still has problems when she gets a tummy upset, because she can't hold it in, so when she has the runs, she just leaks poop. So we put her back in a nappy. (dunno what we are going to do about this when she gets to school next year)
We still didn't know if she could urine train - as her sacral ratio is crap and she has the tethered spinal cord and that is usually a good indication of continence ability.
BUT SHE'S DONE IT!!!!!!! She is in knickers all day every day. She goes to the shops in knickers, car rides, day sleeps, EVERYTHING.
I am so happy and proud of her.
Thanks for reading, I just needed to share.![]()
