Default Next TT thread...the 'dreaded poo'

Any ideas on how to encourage DS to poo on the loo/potty. I've tried bribes (choclolate) but all I get is a pee sized poo then he holds it in for the next day or so.

he's really great with wee, but won't poo on the potty/loo. Just in his undies, or outside if he's naked...refuses to tell me, so the only times he's had a go on the potty is when I have caught him.

    Does anyone have any suggestions

He will get there! Maybe saying to him 'come on I will read you this story while you do a poo on the potty' so it is like subliminal advertising, then once he gets comfortable with doing a poo on the potty he will start to go on his own. HTH

ETA - also you may like to put the potty in a quite place or even ask where your son wants to sit on it so he feels comfortable/safe.

I don't think there is anything you can do.........just get used to cleaning poo off your floor and child and then one day they magically just get it

Miss Abby hasn't worn day time nappies at home for close to 4 months......wees she got the first month or so, she would go to the potty or go outside on the grass.....Poos she has only just started getting

After nearly 9 years of nappies I am nearly finished

    Go Miss Abby!

I've started talking to him about poo going 'splosh splash' in the toilet which he is now quite excited about...and he had a couple of goes before pooing outside! LOL

Guess I just have to ride it out.

    Pretty much

they just won't get it till they are ready and I think the bigger thing you make of it the longer it takes

we have had some lovely messes to clean up here over the years

I made the mistake of trying to make DS1 poo train - nothing, no bribery/stories/lollies etc would make him do it - he would ask for a nappy and wait until he got one to do it

he just did it when he was good and ready - it did take a while after wee training too and in hindsight our pushing may well have made it worse

now i just let do as they please - no nappies, in the yard - whatever - its much less stressful IMO
H probably has the most nappy free time any of them have ever had and he is probably the most toilet aware at the youngest age - i think it just happens in their own time.

It just takes time. Try not to stress. If you can encourage him to sit on the toilet or potty and read a book, sing songs etc, he might start to learn to relax and that's more likely to get a result!
