Default Cloth alternative to disposables at night

    Hi there,

I'm keen to know what type and brand of night nappies others have found to work well.

We are currently using disposables at night because I find it gives bubs butt a chance to dry out and she gets less nappy rash during the day, but I would love to find a good cloth alternative.

We use pockets with bamboo inserts during the day and have used them at night too, but I find she is more prone to getting nappy rash when we use them both night and day.

Do the wool soakers and fleece covers allow their butts to breathe better, keep dry?

Any suggestions would be a help.

    Thanks

Marlie has been in cloth since he was 5 weeks old and we have always used a Baby Beehinds bamboo with a night booster on the outside of the nappy, with a wool cover, or longies....we have never had a leak nor any redness!

The only time Marlie gets red is when he is teething....

Marlie can only have natural fibres against him as they do make him react (we found out the hard way!) so it might be the man made fibres reacting??

We use a couple of different nappies for night. It really is a trial and error thing, though we have been ok with everything we have tried. If you can stick to the known ones your probably better off.

We have a Sandman night nappy, a Bizy Bee night nappy, a Wild Child night nappy and a Zada NN. We also use babybeehinds bamboo and hemp nappies overnight. I have found with these fitteds it is amazing that if Ashton has a rash on his bum, of ANY kind, using these for a night or a couple during the day clears it up straight away.

If you get a nappy that has microfleece as the inner it is staydry. So just like a disposable. I actually imagin your pockets should be too so using a sposie instead of one of them isn't any different.

    What pockets are you using?

It's definitely a trial and error thing. Back when my babes were younger, I used BBB's exclusively and just boosted them with the trifold on the inside and the outside (we were using wool covers). Extremely bulky but very effective, I also used GNST from Bubblebubs, these are also good but I found very high in the rise so I had to make sure I had an equally high rise cover (twins in cloth flongies are good).

    I'm using Greenkids pockets.

I have felt her skin when using a pocket at night and I is quite moist, I think that's why she reacts. I've got some BB, so I'm thinking of trying them boosted with lots of bamboo and I've also got a Fluffies? cover (old fastioned). Would this be the same as a wool cover?

With the night nappies, what material inner and covers are they made from?

    Thanks heaps

I use a Sustainable Hemp Products sandman night nappy - it is great, I find it the best night nappy I've used. I use a Disana wool cover for breathability (got it from Wee Wuns). Most night nappies I've seen are made from bamboo with microfleece inners.

Nope. I'm pretty sure that fluffies are made from acrylic materials (someone else might know for sure). In any case I doubt that they will last a whole night without wee soaking through.

Green Kids have a stay dry inner. I find that cloth (even with a stay dry) wont be as dry as sposies, especially over night.

Wool and Fleece covers breath more than what PUL does and certainly more than a sposie does.

Personally I use a fitted nappy with a strip of fleece down the middle and then smother them with cream. I am using the one from The Crafty Caterpillar at the moment and love it.

With my kids, if I dont use a fleece liner AND lots of barrier cream, they are red in the morning.

During the day though I have no issues with using a fitted nappy with a natural inner.

Pobie - does the barrier cream get on the fleece and stop it absorbing?

Also, I think the fluffies probably are acrylic materials as I don't have to lanolise then.

    Thanks for your tips.

I prefer the thought of a wool cover as it's more natural. Have other found this better than fleece?

I much, MUCH prefer wool over anything else over a fitted at night.

As for the fleece and the barrier cream. I havent had any problems with repelling, I have however had lots of stains from the fleece picking up stains easier from it being a little bit oily. I use a lay in fleece linner for this reason. I also have coloured ones so I cant see the staining
