Would foldinf a prefold up into a pad and folding it up at the front for extra absorbancy at the front work? Then place it in a cover?

yup That's what the prefolds are for. Pad folding is the best way with them.

Yeah except the pooh smeared out a bit so I flared it open to create wings at the back. Hope that helps! It's a bit of a battle to do the snaps up with a screaming, thrashing baby but I can get it done up!

dunno haven't used them lol I loved the ME rikki covers with the leg gussets. We didn't have a leak ever with those.
