At least a reader of a magazine can assume that the advertising there is controlled and paid for, and expects it to be an advertisement..... where a campaign like this can end up with people just posting praise to get the product. Which is not always a sincere endorsement. Its open for people who have never even tried the product to come out with "Ohh I love these, they work so well", just so they can get a freebie.
While you may not consider it to be asking people to spam for you, others will disagree and see it as spam. It may increase sales and your company reputation, but I personally feel that campaigns like this have a detrimental effect. I won't be believing any of the posts about how good the product is, because I know the people posting them are doing so just to get a freebie. So to me, it's worthless and biased.
Most of us detest spam, and promotions like this just encourage people to spam.
