Default Signature Advertising - WAHM's Please Read!!

During the coming week, free signature advertising on Nappycino will cease. This will co-incide with a range of advertising packages and options that Kate will be releasing next week. I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up so they can store an info from their signature prior to their removal.

Having not had a look yet, I would say linking to a personal blog is fine, but to one that is used to discuss/promote a business is not if that makes sense?

So I could like to my own blog where I rubbish on about my kids, but not the Cauldron blog.

    Clear as mud?

    WDYT Jo?

I think it is fair to leave them until the packages are released, but it would definitely be a big help if people were to start removing them sooner rather than later to cut down on admin workload.

OH gees.. I'm not gonna know who anyone is without the biz links in the sigs! Can we at least have a biz name so we know who is who?

And i think it will be awful hard to manage blogs... I know that my personal blog has stuff about me ordering for the store and I tend ot put up new logo and emb designs too (not that mine is public or anything).

Well, I am really sad to see that Nappycino is becoming so regulated... its openess was one of the things that made it great I thought!

I think in order for NC to grow this is the direction it must go in Jeni.

Jen it isn't about regulation in the way that I think you are thinking... we will be offering signature advertising at very very competitive prices because we do want it to be accessible to all WAHM's.

But obviously for that to work we can't have people using their sigs to list their biz when others are paying to do that IYKWIM?

If you just sit tight a little longer I think you will be pleasantly suprised by the pricing structure

I agree it's probably a good step to take. Nappycino needs donations to run, and obviously can't just rely on the odd random donation here and there.
I think we all get a lot out of this place, and giving a few dollars back to make it even better is great if you ask me.

It can be hard to draw the line (having been an admin at other places myself), and there will always be people that try and get around the rules (any rules, but ones that I'm referring to are the ones involving who can put what link in their sig etc). I think we are all reasonable and friendly adults that can abide by a few "directions" that need to be in place in order for there to be order!

I think it's great to know that our dollars are funding upgrades and extensions to a place we all love to hang around.

    Thanks for your support Lis

I think we all need to realise that a lot of the work and growth that has occured here in the past year has ocme directly from Jo's own hip pocket and I'm sure we all agree that that is not an appropriate thing.

NC needs to be able to support itself, as well as grow.

I think one of the great things about the new packages is that they will hopefully help fund some extra advertising of NC as a site and forum (after dealing with more immediate things obviously).

As this forum grows so does WAHP exposure and having advertised in a number fo different places/formats myself I can tell you that the rates here will be a darned sight lower than in many other places.

Given that this is THE place for nappy nerds and pretty much every person here IS your target demographic as a WAHP, it really should be a good deal all 'round we hope.

That is correct, but for amounts less than that, a receipt must be issued. Is Nappycino, or the official owner, registered for GST? Because that would indicate whether GST has been charged allowing those registered for GST to claim it back, or whether we can just write off the money spent as an Advertising Expense.

All advertising payments made to Nappycino are a non tax deductable donation. Nope, you can not claim it on your tax. A receipt and a tax invoice are two different things entirely

I'm happy about paying for sig advertising as it means the site is more self-sustaining and so likely to stick around iykwim.

And yep the prices here are really very affordable compared to some other places.

So can I still be Mama to twins in cloth - and just remove the link to my website? Or do I have to remove the Mama to twins in cloth?

Instead of everyone having to take their sig ads down and then put them back up when they've paid for the advertising, wouldn't it be easier to release the ad packages and give us a chance to buy one before such and such a date or then have to remove our sig ads?

Just a thought to save everyone a lot of time, unless the sig ads will have to change in size or something anyway.

The advertising package options will be released this week. There will also be a "freebie" period for sig advertising. Anyone signing up for paid signature advertising during the changeover period will not be required to remove their signatures, this advice is purely for those who have something in their signature they want saved if they do not want to pay for signature advertising as, after the transition period is over, non-paid signature ads will be stripped.

As far as tax invoices go, I think the question is valid because advertising can be claimed as a business expense. It can't be claimed as a tax deduction as far as donations go, but for WAHPs registered as businesses they can claim advertising costs against their business income, however they need invoices for that.

A business expense is a tax deductible expense, they are the same thing, you can only claim deductable donations and expenses, for which nappycino advertising is not

It may not be a tax deductable donation, but every NGO I have worked for (a few) has had to provide receipts for donations upon request, and tax invoices for products sold - including services. We also had to charge GST on all products, services etc except donations. Of course, while those NGOs did not all have Deductable Gift Recipient status (capacity for donated monies to be tax deductable - by far and away most organisations do not have this) all were registered in some kind of official capacity - which is probably the biggest difference to NC.

It sounds as though you are charging for advertising in everything but name, only asking for a particular amount as a donation, which seems reasonable but remember that from the other side of the fence, people who consider it advertising and hence a business expense (and who are going through the official, registered channels) might be justified in wanting things to be done properly.

Given this is the only advertising based nappy forum in oz, I can imagine that businesses really have no choice.

Nappycino is currently a personal, privately owned website. It is not a business, it is not a non profit group or any other type of organisation. As such, receipts are not provided as you are not being sold anything. If you dont want to have your business details in your signature then dont have them there, that is fine, if you do then you can help cover the costs associated with the site, simple really

    I have a small question....

Myself and a few other knitters are opening a store soon, does each person have to pay for the signature advertising, or is it one payment per store? Because it would be great to advertise it, but if all of us need to pay it would price us right out of it iykwim.

I think the signature advertising is a great idea btw.

The advertising fee will be per member, you can have it under which ever one of you that you want, but it wouldn't be fair to pay once and have it on the entire group. And I really REALLY *REALLY* don't think the price will be too high for anyone

Jo - I think that signature advertising is a great idea too - about time too!

I understand that it is your personal site, and that it is a personal donation to you for your costs, but it still seems like you are charging a fee for advertising on your site in everything but name, even if you would prefer to call that fee a donation.

I can see how this may stuff up the accounting process of people who are running businesses that is all I meant, though I guess it depends how much you are charging as to how much of an issue it would be.

Peace - I think that NC is on the right track!

Just hoped I could clear something up. For the business owners, if you *do* choose to claim the donation/advertising fee/whatever you call it as an expense, if it is under $50 you do not need a receipt anyway. As long as you can prove to the ATO that it is a reasonable expense (i.e that you have not imagined it), they will accept it. They will also accept paypal receipts
