I am going join you in this thread too,lol
I dont know how many, but would like to know too. In terms of PUL covers I bought some thirsties and they seem really nice and soft....they have gussets too. Id be interested what people think of fleece too. I am having a winter bub so was going to get some flongies. Can I ask a question? I am assuming you can put clothing over fleece covers. The wetness wont seep though will it?

Cool I will check out thirsties.
With the fleece, you can put clothes over the top, might get compression leaks if the nappy gets really wet underneath but I find fleece works well, although never tried on a newbie. I suppose it's like wool, I will be knitting plenty of woollies too.

Fleece and wool can get compression leaks, like if bub's in the carseat or lying in the same spot for too long - but I'll let someone who's used fleece on a nb recently answer that better, cos it's been awhile here! :p
Actually, had another thought about fleece. Most nb's aren't really heavy wetters are they, they poo before they have time to saturate a nappy. So perhaps the compression is only really an issue as babies get older? I'd say 5 nb sized covers are enough - guess it depends on the type of nappies you're using too - for example, we used snappied prefolds or fitteds, so 4 (2 eenees snibs and 2 Bummis Original Small (weight range starts lower than SWW's)) were enough for us. But if you were going to just pad-fold a trifold inside a snug cover, then you're more likely to get dirty covers and might want more - though you could just rinse and air dry pretty quickly with PUL. I'd get at least one more small for the start - River was 4.2kg (9.4lb), and so the eenees snibs (while awesome), didn't fit for too long. So for awhile he was in eenees and Bummis Originals, then he was in Bummis Originals and Motherease Rikkis (and I think we also had a small SWW and small BBH cover). I'd recommend the Motherease Rikki covers - I love them! They have gussets, which means you can pull the cover snugger at the legs without leaving marks. Any covers with gussets should be good actually!

i have to admit- we only use covers with gussets. LOVE the thirsties ones- they are at Cotton Bottom. We have both NB and small ones. And now that Lily is only 4 weeks old we are nearly out of our NB ones.
I love my loveybums- we went straight into medium. Also the lotus wool cover in small was ACE!! i personally am not a fan of fleece on any of my kids- but i have one bummis and its fine. We are not going anywhere to get compression leaks. A GF has BBH PUL and loves them as they are very adjustable- they dont have gussets tho. Also must say that when you put your fav cover on- dont tell the bub thats its your fav as they will make sure they explode all over it! i think 5 will be plenty tho- invest more into smalls as they grow out of the NB ones very quick!

I agree with Carolyn, I only have 2 NB covers (Bummis) and 2 smalls, I think 5 NB covers is plenty. So invest in more smalls. But I wash daily.
I like my wool covers but DH thinks because he can feel a hint of damp that it's leaking. And I was worried about the poo stain I got on my wool cover which I tried to wash out, but then I lay it on the floor indoors the sun for a bit and amazingly it got bleached out within 2 hours....

I agree with the PP about getting more small. The newborn size does not last for long (but hey, everyone told me that too and I still could not resist having a lovely stash of NB sized ones as well! I hate oversized nappies and covers on newbies- looks so uncomfy!).
I had Bummis PUL and also Baby Beehinds PUL- the Beehinds are so nice and soft! I also had some Swaddlebees fleece covers in NB and small and they are just beautiful (pretty trim though, so you would not want anything too bulky underneath).

Thanks ladies. I'm not getting anymore NB size. I was actually given 3 of the NB size anyway and only purchased the others for about $6 each which is why I have found myself with so many
![]() Getting smalls now. I think I will have enough covers as I'm knitting woollies too.

I used cloth and covers for both boys from around 5kgs onwards. I didn't know about woolies back then, so I had invested in pul covers from BBH. I probably used 6 (for both boys) smalls, and then have 4 each of medium and large and they are both still using them and both fit into both sizes quite well. The large I use for bulkier nappies.
They are 1 and 2 yrs old now.....11 and 14 kgs respectively.
