yup agree with all the above - dont they reckon night time bladder control just happens when their brain is ready - so drinks dont make any difference

I am getting a little tired of the 5.30am wakeups to go to the potty. I think that part of it is that she knows that if she says she needs to go to the toilet, the light goes on she gets out of her pjs etc.

Thanks for all of your advice.

I wish my girl would wake me at 5.30am to go to the toilet - not to say mum I wet the bed. I limit drinks with Emma to an extent - Brandon is fine - we put him in undies one night and that was it - 2 months later he's wet the bed once. Emma has had about 5 dry nights - she's in and out of nappies, we keep trying and we'll get 1 or 2 dry nights then a run of wet nights and it's back into nappies. I try to not let Emma have a drink after tea - we eat around 6.30 - 7pm and they're in bed by 8.30pm at the latest - if she asks for a drink I say no to start with - if she really persists she is allowed a small drink - about 1/4 of a small cup - and she's made go to the toilet. We've actually found on the nights when we insist on this she usually wakes up dry.

Harry has 1 drink before bed time as part of his routine. I always said 1 drink only and that's it. He now just knows that he has 1 drink and that's it.

Good luck with it Ali.

Yeah, Chelsea often gets up around 5-5:30 for a toilet trip. We usually give her some more milk & send her back to bed 9 times out of 10 she'll go back to sleep

What is it with that hour. Unfortunately I rely on every little bit of sleep at the moment. *sigh* here's hoping it's a short phase.

See i don't agree that kids will wake up and ask to go to the toilet.

Between my two girls i have been woken up once in all these years to ask to go to the toilet, so for us in our house they have to be able to hold their bladder for around 12hours.

Don't ask me why but they just don't wake up to go to the toilet. I also don't wake up to go to the toilet but once I am upright I really need to go .

Rebecca - I know my two don't wake up and ask or just go to the toilet. Brandon wakes up, comes into bed with us for a while, then goes to the toilet. Emma either wakes up and does the same, or wakes up and has wet the bed.

Really?
Mine are all up at the toilet usually at least once a night. At least Caitlyn & Emily can get themselves there & back without having to wake us up though.

I think every child is so different. Holly is 4, Georgia is 3 and Georgia is a HUGE drinker during the day and she can drink a 250ml cup of water before going to sleep and wake up at 6.30ish and STILL not go to the toilet for an hour or so. Usually once she's had another 250ml cup of water.

Holly is older but drinks very little before bed (they have a cup each in their room). Georgia is the main one who's always asking for a drink once they are in bed, so now I just put one in there for them.

Georgia wakes up if she needs to go to the toilet during the night which is very rare whereas Holly has had the occassionaly wet bed but slept through it and I haven't known till the morning.
